It’s jarring to read & I struggle to figure out what the writer was trying to comm w/o missing her meaning, but we don’t hv to bash her up for our difficulty in u’stand’g the msg. The one posting up with the “This blogger’s English will give you stage 4 cancer.” smacks of one with a condescending attitude & not making attempts to be u’stand’g or inclusive.


When we meet someone who speaks poorly, whatever strata of life they’re from, why do we cringe? Shldnt we accept with politeness & accept the individual as they are? How can they help themselves if that’s the level they can achieve? I wld hope ppl in Japan or Germany accepts me when I try to use my miserable acquired language ability to comm with the native speakers. Owise I’ll be silent but might be construed as rude not replying or responding? I won’t hv the courage to practice my verbal comm if I feel society will judge me for my incapability.

Nah, bad English is still bad, no matter where the speaker is from. Years ago I read a long and rambling letter from a native English speaker. Still hurts my brain thinking about it.

This is not about whether somebody's English is bad. This is about some people's response - viz \"This blogger's English will give you stage 4 cancer.\" This kind of offensive comment merely reflects the writer's upbringing.

It is one thing to criticize somebody for writing, speaking a whole load of incomprehensible jargon instead of plain language. It is another to ridicule somebody just because one thinks that one's English is better. So what if one's English is better? It does not make one a better or higher class person.

Reminds me of this rejoinder: \"Yeah? My English is better than your Chinese, and my Chinese is better than your English.\" Feel free to swap Chinese with Malay, Tamil, Hindi etc.
