No one can deny that technology has enabled us to do things more quickly and efficiently. Most of us can name the benefits of digital technology and other mechanical contraptions. But what are some of the things that had to be sacrificed along the way? One thing I can think of is the art of communication -- both written and spoken. My father, and many people I know from his generation, used to have such beautiful handwriting. During my school days, my own handwriting used to be decent. But after all these years working on the word-processor I, too, seem to have lost it. Writing with the pen is no longer something that is comfortable and natural as it used to be. And I notice people nowadays are speaking the way they write -- in codified language!
