If it’s location tracking, iPhone’s Find My is more than good enough. they can’t turn it off but they can don’t share but you will know that. For the content / app, on the iPhone, you will need to activate parental control. You will get to limit screen time on specific apps, etc. basically, you get to control what they can and cannot do. Both Find My and parental control are built in app / function for iPhone by Apple.

On the android side, you have family link. Similar functions to the above. Family link will also get to see their location. Family link is a Google app available in Play Store but it can only work on the newer android os.

We may say that we parents need to bring our child up well, forbid this and that. But imagine strugging with a child whose close classmates are using it . Forbid classmates? Forbid school ?

I am not so familiar with all the apps you mention, but when my kids were young, and even now, they would set their privacy setting so that random strangers could not view or comment on their accounts. Also, I spoke to them very seriously before letting them set up such accounts, and reminded them periodically, about the dangers of interacting with strangers online. They had to get permission from us before setting up any account, and we would do some basic check of the app to see what it was about. We told them what sorts of info they should never disclose (and what could happen if they did). They set up passwords for their devices (and we warned them not to disclose them to friends) so that their friends could not do funny stuff on their accounts.

Basically, you need to tell him what dangers lurk out there, and he has to trust you that you are wiser than he is (and that the parents who let his classmates freely use social media as less wise and careful!). Yes, it can be a struggle for him and for you, but he has to learn that it is not always wise to follow the crowd. Sometimes, even if it feels painful, it is better to be different. You will need to get him to understand that it is not you against him, but you and him against the big, bad world out there.

Hi I understand that Life 360 is mainly for location tracking.

My child shares location with me using whatsapp. It seems to work well.

I am more interested in content monitoring.
Sometimes its not our child.
And most of the time it’s the external influence from social media like instagram.
And sometimes, when many teens who are "half good" add up, it makes a big common bad.

It’s easy to parent our child but difficult to parent other teens.

I am keen on qustodio. May I know if anyone can share the weakness of it?

We are also using life 360 and for us. It is really beneficial because it gives us peace of mind that we know where our child is.

I’m trying out life 360 for all members of my family. It’s pretty good except that the child can choose not to be located. So, it defeats the purpose of tracking for safety reasons. I’m not comfortable tracking without their knowledge. It’s better for them to choose to be "tracked", knowing that this choice might save their lives one day. It’s not like we want to be watching them every minute or second. It’s more like when you need to know where they are, it allows you to option to find them.

i think there is Life 360 - recommended by user here too
Yes, cannot turn off data , dun work when phone is out of range ( unlikely case for ST, M1 ,SH etc -unless kids went into Caves / basement / ulu jungle )
can even track in macritchie reserve, coney island etc
we are open since the day we pass phone to kids -sec 1
Our deal is I give data & phone - they are responsible to be contactable ALL the times except during exams
my kids data is 20gb - so much more than mine (main line) :yikes: so dun tell me nonsense of not enuff data

I can't comment on any apps as I don't use any. I think the first thing is to determine the purpose of tracking a child. If the child is young and it's for safety, then tell your child to keep the phone one with the location activated, and explain that it's for safety reasons. If the child is older, especially if already a teen, it's best not to try covertly tracking them. The fallout of them finding out is likely to be damaging to the relationship of trust between parent and child. If you have trained your child well and have a strong relationship, they will report their whereabouts to you willingly; if they are forgetful and unreliable, then tell them that they are being tracked until they show more responsibility; if you suspect they are trying to hide things from you, there are other things you have to do to build that relationship, not just resort to tracking them covertly.

This is all true.. it depends on the situation I guess there are exemptions why other parents want to track their child. It is true this can break their trust so better think twice before tracking your kids.
