We’ll be going to Melbourne in early April, bring my boys (age 4 & 2). What are some fun things to do there with the kids? My older boy doesn’t really fancy western food, is it easy to get asian food there?

It should be Autumn there in early April. But heard that weather changes are erratic and you can experience 4 seasons in a single day??

Appreciate any advice on travelling there.

It’ll bring you to the city. You can book thro Klook & show yr online booking. No printed copies needed. My SIL drive us when we arrived. We book 2 hours prior to leaving city for airport. Very convenient.

Probably more than enough. HOWEVER, it’s worth to take note of this fine print:
In case of an accident: Pay the rental firm for the damage incurred then claim the matching amount from CarInsuRent.com.

Hence, the only real question is whether it’s worth to pay a little extra and let the rental firm takes care of everything, or save that bit but will have to take up the bill before reimbursement.

Some rental companies will try to argue that your policy with carinsurent is not sufficient and will encourage you to purchase their own excess waiver coveraga…don’t forget that this is the way that they make money :-). Same... Since the cost of the holiday is already quite huge, what is the extra $$... Worth it for peace of mind. Too much effort needed if still need to settle claim before departing or after reaching home.

Another reason for pre-booking:
Cars (popular make) and, especially, car seats do run out.

You don’t want to have an itinerary but no car to get you there.

I think the question is where do you intend to go to? For traveling within and around the city, you would not need to drive and can rely on the generally reliable https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/. While day tours are viable options, multiple day tours + a few people to pay = expensive proposition. Similar, if you want to book a car with driver, be prepared to pay serious cash. Self driving is unfortunately the most cost effective way of doing trips outside the city over multiple days.

For day tours, you may just want to stick to the main touristy places.

I am planning yarra->travel.down…sorrento ->GOR->back to city. If i include Sydney, it will probably be melbourne city for sight seeing/kids stuff->GOR/12 apo-> road trip to sydney (3-4 days with stops along the way->sydney

Need some advises re Melbourne. We are a group of 6 (4adults + 2 kids age 11&14) going abt 10 days. Is Southbank a good place to stay? Also any good serviced apartment with 3 bedrooms to recommend? We plan to spend 3 days for GOR..enough? Where does ppl usually stop for the night?

Southbank is a good place to stay. Accessible and well connected to the major transport network (Flinder’s St, trams, etc). Price may not be the lowest though. I’ve no recommendation but you should take a look at Airbnb for a normal apartment.

For GOR, the typical night stops for 2 nighters are Apollo Bay and Port Fairy (or Warrnambool if you don’t think you can make it as far as Port Fairy).

It might be better to get an experienced driver as driving long distance might be to taxing for inexperienced one. Do keep a lookout for animals that might cross the highway.
