Hi Everyone!

I came across this post a few months ago about finding a card that you could trust your helper with to do your groceries.

My name is David and I'm a co-founder of JiPay, a company that does exactly that! We are getting ready to launch the JiPay Expense Card, the first dedicated card for your helper to make purchases on your behalf.

I'd love to know if this is a product you guys would be interested in using? We are planning to launch in Singapore early next month, and I'm trying to speak to as many potential users as possible before we launch.

Hi people, how do you let your domestic helper to do grocery shopping for you?

We rely on her to buy a lot from Fair price every 2 ～3 days. So far so good. We use cash and it is a bit inconvenient.
I currently have a credit card that returns some cash back for heavy grocer shopper. I am wondering:

1. Does bank allow me to apply a supplementary card for her? I mean she bears her name on it but her expense is monitored and controlled by me as a principal card holder.
2. Is it possible to set a daily limit on a credit card?
3. How safe and how common it is for other mothers to do the same as me?
Are u thinking of OCBC Plus! Visa card for shopping at FairPrice and Unity? If I'm not wrong, supp cardholders must be related to principal cardholder. The credit limit granted to the supp cardholder is the same as the principal's.

If you have a senior staying at home with this helper, maybe you can apply supp card for your senior instead, because you can stretch your dollar if she goes shopping with the helper. Senior/Pioneer/Merdeka Generation members are entitled to a 3% discount every Mon and Thurs. If he/she is above 60, enjoy an additional 2% discount every Tues, in addition to the LinkPoints you chalk up.

My friend applied for a credit card for his Filipino helper of 10 years. However, he didn't tell me which bank that was. I know OCBC (not its NTUC Plus! card), UOB and DBS principal cardholders can apply supp cards for FOREIGNERS. However, this foreigner must hold a valid WP/EP/DP, a passport with x months of validity and is above 18 yrs old.

Note that some principal cardholder's credit limit can be very high due to his annual income, spending patterns and payment history. With no pre-set spending limit on the principal cardholder, his/her supp cardholder may sometimes be granted a whopping 5-digit credit limit! Is that the kind of risk you wish to take for someone unrelated to you, & whose FDW permit is renewable once every 2 years?

You must also keep in mind cash advance withdrawal limit (I.e. from ATM) may be up to 70% of the approved credit limit of that supp card. You've to ensure she leaves the supp card at home before she takes her weekend day-off.

But...but...while you can ask her to place the card in your drawer whenever she's done with shopping, what if she has a good memory and can memorise her 16-digit card no & CVV & expiry date and make online purchases for her overseas relatives on her smart phone? Will there be an agreement between you and her that she cannot purchase any other merchandise besides groceries and pharmaceutical products from designated shops?

A debit card is a safer option because she can also use PayWave to make cashless purchases for your groceries at FairPrice. The biggest disadvantage is you don't get NTUC cash back.

You should consult personal financial advisors at Plus! card booths at FairPrice or shop for the best product at different banks.

I guess it is better to have a debit card (prepaid would be the best option) for this case. You might have a hard time applying for a supplementary card for your maid and to avoid any possible problems in the future.
If I set a daily spending limit on the card and disable ATM withdrawal, isn't same as a prepaid card then?
