Hope there will be some advantages for citizens over pr's in secondary school admissions (similar to how in primary school, citizens have priority in balloting)

I assume you haven’t been following the new changes to the AL scheme then.

In case of same score, tiebreaker will ensure. SC will enjoy priority over PR. Simply put, if the PR wants to go to any sec school, they have to do significantly better than the Indicative COP. Otherwise, they will be removed from consideration - unless there isn’t enough SC.

Oh I wasn't aware of this. At least it's a small advantage then 🙂

If both same status then ballot.


But new citizens are also considered citizens.

Coz PRC kids mandarin is excellent, immediately disadvantages our local kids who think it's uncool to speak good Chinese

A friend of mine has a daughter in a primary school class where the #1 kid in the class is a pr. Apparently that kid has no life other than studying. I'd hate for our kids to have to go through a similar kind of childhood just to compete

Because

just one single subject on its own, Chinese, is sufficient to pull a P6 student right down, all the way in PSLE.

Example

Suppose there is a P6 student.

These 3 subjects, ( English, Maths, Science), say, no issue, can score A1.

But if his Chinese is weak, possible to score AL 5 points.

What is his AL score, then ?

Total = 3 + 5 = 8

8 pointers

cannot enter (RI nor Hwa Chong) IP anymore, if entry by AL score Sec 1 MOE posting admission,

assuming that this student did not receive any 2021 onwards DSA offer, from neither schools

Because

The Cut-off, for (RI and Hwa Chong), is below 8 points

Btw,
for students who are weak in Chinese, it is easy to clock up

AL (4 or 5 or 6) points

So, students sitting for AL PSLE system, make sure don't neglect your Chinese (Mother tongue)


And, if
P6 students attempt to gain exemption in Chinese (Mother tongue) and been approved, some (not all, because some are genuine cases) try to escape from Chinese, straightaway, they will score AL (6 to 😎 points

Think of PSLE t-score as the distributed average of your 4 subject scores. Effectively, if you have 3 strong subjects, it could cover the inadequacy of 1 subject.

However, under AL score, every subject score matters. Eg if you have scored 3 AL1 and 1 AL4, that’s 7 points and in all likelihood, will miss out on the R & H schools. If you score AL5 or AL6, your options will be limited further and may even miss IP schools totally.

Previously if 3 subjects 100, MT 64, you will get 364 * (0.72-0.75), at least above 262.
Now 1+1+1+ 6(MT) = 9 AL points, don't think enough for any top school.

Under T score system, if kid is high scorer Eg 99/100 marks in Math, it can compensate for poor Chinese marks. Kid can still get a good 240-250 T score.

But AL system, ultra high Math marks also won’t help since 91-100 is all AL1 mark only. Whereas if potato kid failing Chinese marks like 45-64 range, is considered AL6 mark.

And don’t even dream of getting any exemption from Chinese, as MOE has already said that would immediately assign the kid a theoretical AL6-8 mark.

i think singaporeans themselves will drive up the competitive numbers
this years ACS high numbers came from very high alumni numbers and siblings of existing students

I think the new citizens refer to those in Phase 2B. Adding them to rest of SC in Phase 2B, effectively its almost a guarantee to ballot < 1km if the number of places available remain small.
