I think moderation is key, but definitely not be too restrictive on the carbs. Sugar yes, but carbs are good for growing children.

I have been using it for the pass 10+ months to maintain a calorie deficit and it's pretty useful and user-friendly to track calories intake and also the macros (by searching for items by keying in names, scanning item bar code or making new entries).

chenlaoshi

Reply to Health App on Tue, 25 May 2021 04:06:37 GMT

slmkhoo\" post_id=\"2023928\" time=\"1620951864\" user_id=\"28674:

mindscape\" post_id=\"2023898\" time=\"1620905877\" user_id=\"162686:
Oh, maybe I'm being too protective. If you go by the general guidelines (more veg and fruit, less fat/sugar/salt, less junk food, fewer sweet drinks) you can't go far wrong. Look at the HPB website for general info on diet.

Just remember that kids do need carbs, fats etc for energy or growth. It's not a case of all or nothing - very strict limits or no limits are both not healthy. Aside from not getting enough nutrients during the growing years, although some kids who grow up on strict diets choose to continue that for themselves, I would think the majority go the other way and indulge once they are out of parents' control. So teaching moderation and self-control is setting them up for a healthier future. Teach them moderation - junk food as occasional treats (NOT rewards), a preference for wholegrain carbs rather than highly refined carbs, higher proportion of veg vs meat, etc.

I'll check the website you have mentioned. Maybe moderation works well rather than eliminating it at all cost. I just don't like my kids to be obese and be like their Grandmother who already have complications.

mindscape

Reply to Health App on Sun, 16 May 2021 01:41:12 GMT

I think children who are active and not obese, should not avoid carbs.
