Actually no one even asked if the cut off point is high or has gone up this year. In fact, cut off points have gone up for many other schools too not just IJ. By the way, how did u conclude that 2018 is the worse cohort and that Mrs Margaret Tan did not give a damn? Perhaps you should feedback to the primary school what went wrong instead of posting such stuff publicly here and saying that IJ primary only has average and mediocre students. The cutoff is high this yr due to the pri side didnt do well thus majority end up next door.
2018 is the worse cohort in ij tp pri. Mayb it was margaret tan last year so she dont give a damn -
RE: St Joseph's Institution Junior
Hi baby__ayumi
There is no difference in school fees. Same as other schools.
The principal mentioned that p6 results this year was slightly better than last year. But the school do not provide any breakdown of Psle results each year . -

Chij tp sec is for ij tp pri whom did not do well enough to qualify for other schools. Is just a mediocre sch with high cutoff becos most of its places filled up by feeder sch. If u can choose sch which offers pure sci only to express stream.
Becos these r the sch which have the confidence n will b able to guide the even ave students to do well.
The school choose to keep their cut off low so that the girls can continue their education in IJ . This inclusive policy is what I like about about the school and I certainly hope they don’t raise the cut off unlike some others.
There may be mediocre teachers or school leaders but to say that the school is mediocre just cos the girls are fr the primary side with not so good results , with no where to go, is very condescending. Despite taking majority of the girls fr the pri side with scores of only 200 onwards, they offer 5 pure science classes and only 2 combined science. And their O level results still turned out pretty decent. I find this school more value added than others. The perception that pure science classes are better is so outdated in today’s society .....and going to JC need not be the only route these days.... -

2018 batch psle results is bad i guess in 2022 their o level results will not be good.
I feel sad when I saw this comment. I wonder how some girls who are struggling to cope in the school will feel when they see this comment.
There are many examples of kids doing well eventually at o levels despite their psle scores....one girl we knew went to the triple science class joining the girls fr the TOP class, despite a score of below 220. They really work hard for it and seeing such discouraging comments does not do good to their self esteem and confidence.
There are also many examples of kids around my circle of friends and relatives who are doing very well despite their poor psle or o level results. They are the ones who truly understand what failure is all about and bounced back even stronger ....building resilience along the way.... -

I think depends on the class she is in. Ur gal Probably from 1/1 or 1/2. The rest would b affiliates. The affiliates do not have any other choices to go to mostly 200 to 240 for this year. Primary side i would say very relax no stress so long as u can go next door is considered good.
I do not think the pri school is relax...I hv a girl in Sec school side and another currently in the pri side , and I noticed their worksheets are more difficult compared to few yrs ago. Homework is adequate but not overwhelming , allowing my girl to be able to hv time to pursue her interests outside school. Girls hv to go for supplementary class if they need help with the subjects. My 2 girls are of the opposite spectrum. Till today I m thankful to one of her Teachers for helping her do well in her weakest subject. And some girls , despite scoring above 250 choose to go next door. -
RE: CHIJ Toa Payoh Secondary
Hi lycheesandmommy
my view is that it is good to be strong in maths and sciences in the Singapore school system. Although IJ is known to focus on Lit, arts etc, it actually has more pure Science classes , and with yr child stronger in maths and sciences, that’s like 4 -5 subjects in upper Sec, which then leave her with more time to work on her weaker ones like EL . My girl is the opposite so It is very tough for her. -
RE: IP, IB vs A Levels
Hi, my son is keen in the IP track of his dream school but is 9 points off the cutoff. However, his mark is above the affiliated cut off points for o level track.
Since posting is based on merit, it means that no harm putting it as 1st choice to try, then put o level track as 2nd choice.
If cannot get into ip track, then we can appeal after that. So if I planned to appeal, I must put ip track as first choice?
Is my understanding correct? -

RE: 2014 PSLE CL Oral Exam Discussion
estheric:
We cannot comment much about picture as it there is no syllabus for that..Children are expected to converse about any pictures given. However, for Cl oral reading passages, the words used must be within the scope in their Cl textbook.thsheng99:
The group of students that had the Clinic for chinese oral also had a tougher English Oral on Eco Garden whereas the other group have a much easier time with Chines(playground) and English( Library).
Does it mean that one group of students is penalized more than the other ?
Hi, the terms for playgroundvs clinic are quite different in terms of difficulty. I had expected something similar in standard...for both days eg playground and shopping mall.
The same group of students are penalised twice
