Getting anxious as we will be away this week, for a few weeks. -
RE: Secondary School Third Languages
Hi, can I confirm that for Malay and Asian languages, the exam is only until o level or year 4. But for foreign languages, it’ll be until JC or year 6? Thank you.

RE: GEP 2017 - Screening & Selection

Hi, please read with a heart. I’m being very careful here since this may be a sensitive topic. Just hope to share my own experience.
last two years ago,my daughter, her marks are always around 98 ,all subjects. she only pass first round.now my son turn,he got first in eng n maths and first in standard at primary 1 and 2. So he is very expected for that .today he got the sa2 eng compo mark,it is full mark. Now he is depressed not getting that. Please tell me any foreigners who got in the gep? If yes,i m wrong and my kids are not good enough.
Firstly yes, there are foreigners accepted into GEP. In other forums there are discussion on whether GEB differentiate. To which the answer is no. Unlike P1 registration or secondary school posting policy. For the sake of academic development, this is great.
I share your experience. My first born also missed the second round. I use ‘miss’ since I think GEP test is not about failing. Missing it does not mean the child is not good enough! In fact, first few ranks in the cohorts of DD school did not even passed the first round. What I observed is that the test leans more on mathematic and logical problem solving. Unfortunately language fluency may not be that highlighted.
And there’s one quality that I saw in all GEP kids. They are very very curious. Not necessarily doing well in academic. A few of them do poorly because they’re always distracted.
As a mom of both mainstream and GEP-to-be kid, I’d say, give it your best shot no matter which path. We parents take one step behind to support. -
RE: GEP 2017 - Screening & Selection
Hi westbb and happy70, thanks a lot for the input. Kind of forgot that we still need to purchase all the files and school stationery. Will wait and take action mid-end Dec then.
Hi Imami, after school posting result, parents are still allowed to appeal. All in all only after 15 Dec (or somewhen… can’t remember exactly) the new schools will contact parents. Hence I guess we can only know the required logistics then. -
RE: GEP 2017 - Screening & Selection
To ‘senior’ geppers parents, can I bother you with one question below:
This year, the school selection will only be confirmed in mid Dec. In about 2 weeks time we’ll need to settle the uniform and such. For books, I read that only Mother Tongue use mainstream textbook. Does that mean there is no booklist to purchase?
Thanks in advance

GEP for Singaporean only.Better not participate for foreigners. it is sure of my experience.
Hi, care to elaborate, what is the experience? Foreigner or not, we’re all parents here so I think the info will still be useful for a lot of parents. -
RE: 2017 PSLE Discussions and Strategies
mylulaoshi:
Hi, thank you so much for the clarification. :goodpost:CMMom:
Hi, good day. My daughter's teacher in school advised the students to use pencil in PSLE so that the answer sheets can be relatively neater. But I saw the handbook states that only pen is allowed. Anyone that can help to comment/clarify this? Thanks so much. :thankyou:
Hi, I am a PSLE marker and external Chief invigilator for PSLE during my tenure with MOE. 2B pencil for OAS, shade within bubble, outside bubble machine will mistake for double answers. according to rules, Writing is to be in blue or black (non-friction) pen. No correction tape or liquid paper. We do not confiscate wrong stationery during exam (the school teachers might), neither do we penalise for wrong pen used, definitely not scold the child. -
