      so ma fan....

Just cut HP manpower into 4 portion and distribute to unbranded schools in NSEW region can already.[/quote]

No need open new branch or cut HP manpower lah.

Just re-distribute all principals & teachers.

Everything will be reset then. No schools can get to build up reputation.

Principals and teachers can only serve a number of x years in a certain school and will have to relocate to another school.

Thus popular schools with good track academic records history previously will not mean they will produce good students in future. Then parents will not all clamour to them and this will free up places.

Then there will be enough places for those who are really interested in putting
child for old times sake and for those living near.

Then nobody will complain of property prices shooting up.

Every school will be then a good school.

    • RE: Comparing English Enrichment Programmes

      slmkhoo:
Did he attend preschool? What did he learn there? What language do you speak at home? Is his spoken English OK? Meaning, does he use complete sentences, decent grammar and vocab? Do you read to him at home? Does his school have some kind of learning support programme? You can ask his teacher.

Not all kids find phonics useful in learning to read. Some kids learn by whole word recognition, then work 'backwards' to figure out some phonics rules. So it could be that phonics is not the best way for him to learn to read.

I can't advise you about tuition, but however busy you are, can you spend 15 mins a day reading to your son? Don't teach or test him during the time, but just read for enjoyment. Choose something he wants to hear, and let him learn to enjoy the world of words. Over time, he will improve his mastery of English, and will gradually pick up the reading habit. Hope this helps.
I second this! Best if it is 30 min to 1 hr.

It will be certainly interesting to know exactly how many PRs are taking up places in 1 & 2.

    • RE: How to teach spelling???

      Harlequin:
For Chinese, the square words are made up from 部首 (the key or radical by which a character is arranged)

      人,木,心,日,月, 口,手 etc...

The traditional way of learning Chinese is to learn all these 部首 first. They are usually on the left side of a Chinese square word, but also can be formed on top or bottom of the right side, or in the middle.

To learn Chinese in a easier and fun way is to teach the kids all the 部首 first, those are the base \"words'... Unfortunately, nowadays we learn Chinese by the \"phonic\", that's the Han-Yi-pin-yin way... so the kids must know how to pronounce the Chinese word first, before they can even use a dictionary. To me, it's 本末倒置。

I sincerely think that all kids should start with learning the 部首. There is no point to memorize the 笔划 of the word itself, until one knows how and why it is formed.

If parents are keen, please get a 部首编排法 booklet for your children's leisure learning, explain to them how the way it works, and the Chinese's 象形文字 formation is interesting to the children, e.g., how the 月 looks like the word itself etc.

When all the 部首 is learned, the child will have no problem handling 听写 by herself. No need the hard memorizing about where is the 点,横, 竖,钩, or missing a stroke here and there...

      Sigh.
I am thinking of teaching my children the 部首.

But is it necessary to memorise the name of the 部首?

For example, 钅is pronounced as jin. I am afraid my child might get confuse with the actual word 金. Any suggestion?

I suppose if bugs are fried and seasoned, it should have a crunchy texture similar to ikan bilis.

I can imagine one needs to eat a lot of bugs to feel full.

Investments are undertaken with the intention of profits but there is no guarantee that this will indeed be the outcome.

Many people lost money during the Lehman collapse.

      Including Town Councils..

Oops.. S&C charges gonna rise again..

      Haha

I was thinking of that too.

    • RE: The Alternative Story (TAS) - Discussion

      sean wife:
My child is in a TAS class which is one level higher than her actual school level, but only doing averagely well in the class. Thinking of whether to switch her to her actual school level or to continue with the current class….it is purely my thoughts, although the teacher at TAS feels that she can cope with her current level.

Would you rather your child feel be a ‘commoner’ in the higher level class, or probably do better than her peers in her school level class?
I suppose it also depends on what is the
age difference between the classmates and your child?

For example if your child is born in
January whereas the classmates are born let's say, between Oct-Dec, the age difference is only 1-3 months.

Of course if the classmates are born in early month of January, it would make a vast difference.

She was knocked down by an electric bicycle.

Walking outside is not safe any more even in void deck .

Some motorcycles ride their bikes in void deck to avoid parking fee.

Some cyclists would just zoomed fast without regard for pedestrian safety.
