If the vinegar mixture doesn't work, try tea tree oil or palmarosa oil. http://www.ehow.com/how_4549129_make-ecofriendly-mold-killer-bleach.html

I had similar problem and as of today (about 4 mths), no mould/fungus has appeared on my teak bedside table.

      Good luck.

    • RE: All About IT for Young Children

THis is a delayed post on an old topic. I agree with Mrs Wong’s message about typing using the correct fingerings as it helps in the long run i.e. you don’t need to look and peck to type.

My dd just went for an intermediate typing course conducted by a Mr Chia (Little typist trainer) at the nearby Community Centre. She had learnt basic typing at school and wanted to learn to type faster. She found the 2 day course fun as the teacher was quite engaging. The kids had little electronic keyboards which counted the number of words typed and accuracy. My dd was so motivated to "beat" her score and I was surprised on the progress.

BTW, I’m not related or connected to Mr Chia. My dd came home and told me that the teacher was showing them yo yo tricks and other things to enliven the teaching. So, it’d be a good class for children to attend. Have fun and learn something.

My gal is a Nov child...just got the hang of primary school and the longer hours. ..Since it's just P1, I will do what she can...don't want to pressure her too much.
My dd is a Dec child. So, I know where you're coming from. Your gal will catch up eventually.
      Cheers

Doubt she really understands what it is like sitting for a test.
P1s all move en-bloc to P2 same class.
Sorry to hear about the \"no honeymoon\" for P1s. As the P1 all move to P2 same class, it should be less stressful for the first year (hopefully). Recently, my dd (now P3) told me that when she was in P1, she didn't know what an exam or test was. She thot it was a normal daily worksheet. On exam days in P1, she was still very cheery - no stress but I was so nervous inside and had to pretend to be relaxed. Now, she understands what an exam is and that makes her nervous and personally I think, she makes more mistakes.

All the best to the P1s next wk.

    • RE: CHIJ Primary (Toa Payoh)

Is the Formative Assessments similar to what my dd had in mid year P1 i.e. Common Tests? It was not included in the year end results nor was it in the report book. We were just given a piece of paper with the marks and had to hand them back.

U might want to check with the teacher if they do any streaming based on the results. I remember that there was streaming for Chinese after the mid-year test in P1. Other than that, there wasn’t any change.

What I did then, was look at the school worksheets and test those questions she had wrong. If she had them wrong again, then I’d revise with her. When she still didn’t get it just before the test, I just reviewed with her and crossed my fingers. It takes some children (in P1, esp year end children) some time to grasp concepts so, no point stressing them up at this point.
      Hope this helps.

    • RE: All About Kids' Eye-sight

      concern2:
I am surprised that all the National Myopia Prevention centre did/ does is to give the child a prescription for making glasses. How is that different from getting the child to go straight to the optical shop??

For children under 7 yrs old, it is the govt rule (I presume MOH) that their eyes have to be checked by the Health Board (Child's clinic). I've tried getting my daughter's eyes checked when she was in P1 and was turned away by 2 opticians when they found out that she was under 7 at that time.
