Hi JS rolling. My DD had the same problem last year. She was doing poorly in Section B, getting almost failing marks. I came across CCE so I decided to try it. I enrolled her in their weekly tuition and her grades improved. You may want to try it 🙂

      JS rolling:
      Hello everyone~

I noted that many students can do well for MCQ but struggled at open ended questions. My DD can usually scored about 22 out of 40 and I am worried for her PSLE next year!

I have taught her to use keywords and her school also seems to teach them certain format, but it seems to me that it is still not enough.

As science is her favourite subject, anyone has any advice on how she could improve on her section B? I am worried as it will be her PSLE next year. :yikes:
      :thankyou:
Hi JS rolling! Did you ever push thru enrolling your daughter at CCE? How was her experience? I'm looking for science programs this march and I was wondering if they have slots open. Thanks!

There is one in Hougang, Bishan and Jurong East. My daughter attended the course last month but we have yet to see the results. Although my daughter said she learned a lot of things, even if it’s just a 10-hour class.

It’s intriguing that many believe blindly memorizing answers can help students score high marks on the PSLE. Students tend to answer with single words than explain answers properly. I think there is a greater need to teach students how to answer questions than just route memorization.

When it comes to open ended section of the exams. It is more than simply stating the keywords. Each question is unique and require students to analysis the question and write the appropriate answer base on the question.

There are some easy to answer questions such as “comparison” type of questions where most students are taught in school on how to handle them. But memorizing such format is clearly insufficient for students as science open ended questions comes in too many varieties and flavour. So as the quote suggested, students need to have the right skills and mindset before they can do well for that!

Route memorization is clearly insufficient for A in PSLE.
