Hi
Am thinking of switching my boy from i can read to lcentral.
Since he started on the I Can Read program first quarter of this year, after attending close to a year of its preliminary classes; my boy has been acting up severely each time his class starts for the past month or so, he has phobia of going to the ICR class and would freak out and vomit at the door step… no matter the amount of assurance and persuasion given…sigh, he whined that he finds it too boring or that he is afraid of the spelling ( although he does prepares for it reluctantly at home, he prefers to use memory than the phonemic skills being taught…sigh). Throughout the time, i have been really patient with him and controlling myself not to explode at him. He only settles down when his teacher comes out to "usher" him in with kind words and reassurances.
I feel that my boy is not able to accept well learning via conventional methods ( aka boring) as his kindergarten is those play concept ones and they do not have any spelling even at k2 and minimum writing but alot of fun and learning through games. This ICR reading prog does short passage reading and has weekly spelling (tho only a handful of words) during the class.
Is Lcentral more "fun" or as dry? I am afraid that my boy has develop a phobia for spelling and reading even before he starts primary one ?!??!! Any one can suggest what can be done to help my boy. thanks in advance!!
My girl couldn’t read a single word even after a year of phonics class with another establishment. I’m not kidding. Even those sight words, she was also struggling.
So we started her with Lcentral this year, and to our surprise, she can now read fairly well. Big words no longer scare her, she was able to decode the word. I quite like their structured program and each week, my girl has to read 2 passages (pretty long) and also do some comprehension. Lcentral helped my girl tremendously, and I believe her teacher also gave her a lot of encouragement. She is pretty motivated now.
Now when we bring her to the library, I would pick out books and get her to read to me. I’m thankful that she is not so resistant now towards reading.
Ur boy is in K2 now?
