RE: All About Full-Time Maids
Personal reasons suggests that she is blackmailing you, or has something over you. If that is the case it might just be worth paying her in advance and suggesting she visits her mother. Then you could just cut you losses and hire a new maid, perhaps through a reputable agency and make sure that this one has impeckable references.
Otherwise, if she has nothing over you then donβt give her any more money. That is what I think anyway! -
RE: All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

I can second that experience!!Kstkst:
How does PV work being allocated? Do u tell the school what you want to do or they will allocate?
From my experience,I had submitted a PV application. In the form there was a entry for skill.I filled up my skills.
They have traffic duty, internal school activities such as racial harmony day during recess and sometimes after school and excursion trips.
I gave my flexible hours to incharge of PV.I chose the activities that in my flexible hours and my husband can do also. -

RE: All About Ideas for Birthday Celebration/Presents
lingyongwah:
She's 12. She shouldn't be dictating what is and what isn't an important birthday. And what is she doing with all the gadgets anyway - apart for the Wii it sounds like she is a businessman! My daughter's 12th birthday is fast approaching and I'm desperately thinking of something to get her. She said to me the other day...\"12th birthdays are very important, like the Chinese calendar, its one cycle. So present must be something special also ok?\"
She's not into dolls etc. She's quite athletic (plays badminton), and has all gadgets, such as iPhone 4, Wii, laptop etc.
Would appreciate any ideas you may have.
Thanks in advance.
Take her somewhere where she can be a child. An adventure playground, a waterpark, rock climbing as someone suggested. There is plenty of time in life for material consumer goods. Give her a birthday that she wont forget, not something that will get obsolete and end up on a mound somewhere in West Africa! -

Sometime it's really unbelievable that there so many kids of the same year staying within 1Km.
It's a bit suspicious -
