    • RE: Q&A - P5 Math

      Hi,

Need a help for this question from My Pals Are Here Maths Enrichment P5A .

At a Science competition, 25 problems were given. Each correct answer earned 4 points, and 2 points were deducted for each incorrect answer. Liang Hong answered all but one of the problems receiving a score of 66. How many correct answers did she have?

      Thanks !

H, Is P1 NeuroMath classes by invitation only or anyone can attend?

The NeuroMath was not by invitation. It's more like an in-school math enrichment lessons (done by external vendor) and parents can sign the kids up and pay to attend. They go by modules - think they hv 3 or 4 modules a year.

      HTH. 😄

Oh! I thought it was because two of friends's children didn't receive d letter to enrol for it. Hmm...I better inform them for this yr.

      KP29:
I am not sure if I'm the only parent who feels that the school dismissal time of 1.45pm is late and affects the kids' lunchtime. Does anyone knows if the children are allowed to take dry snacks such as biscuits or bread in class, at about 12+pm? I heard from a friend that her DD's school allows that as their dismissal time is about the same as NAPS.

U r not d only one that feels that 1.45pm dismissal is late.

U can discuss with d teacher to allow your child to eat some light snack during class if your child is hungry.

As I don't stay near school plus I can't drive, by the time we reach home, it's already 3.30pm latest. So by d time he finished his lunch (he was a a slow eater back then), it would b like 3 hours before dinner and he simply had no appetite for dinner!

What I do is, I make sure my child has a good breakfast , and remind him must must must eat during recess, at least a bowl of noodles or rice or sandwich to sustain him until 1.45pm.
Since I fetch him from school, I pack his lunch along, home-cooked food . In this way, he can have his lunch immediately after school. He will either bring his lunch into d canteen to eat with his friends (parents are not allowed in d canteen even after dismissal) or sometimes I will bring him to one of d void decks to eat. U will c quite a few parents doing this, bringing food for them to eat after school. Otherwise, can also choose to eat at the hawker centre or coffee shop opposite the school.

As for some of my friends whose children take d school bus, they pack some light snack for them to munch while waiting for d school bus.

      Hope these infor help .:)

Yes, I agree. The orientation booklet wasn’t clear, and the acronyms baffled some parents.[/quote]

Totally agree with the confusing acronyms. I remembered when my kid was in P1, my friend n I had a hard time trying to figure out those acronyms.
N there was a year there was a new acronym suddenly in d time table , "ER".
      "ER" ? "Early Recess"?? haha…
Turned out to be "E… Reading" . Sorry, forgot what does d "E" stood for already.

As per what I know based on my kid these few years in naps, it's by invitation only.

      Hi,

I need help in these two questions. Appreciate very much!

      1) Bookmarks are sold at 4 for $5 and pens are sold at 3 for $4.
Kenny bought an equal number of bookmarks and pens. He paid a total of $124.
How many bookmarks and pens did he buy altogether ?

      2) A pet farm had the same number of kittens, puppies and rabbits at first.
After 35 kittens, some puppies and rabbits were sold, there were 65 animals left.
There were thrice as many rabbits as puppies left.
There were 26 fewer kittens left than the rabbits left.
How many rabbits and puppies were sold ?

      AgonyMum:
Please help to solve. Thanks very much!

      1. A, B and C baked a totl of 119 cookies. A sold 5/11 of her share while B ate 15 cookies from her share. The number of cookies C ate was 3/5 the number of cookies A sold.If each of them has the same number of cookies left, how many cookies did C bake?

      2. Pail X, Y and Z contained 6800ml of water altogether. 1/6 of the water in Pail Z and 500ml of water in Pail Y were poured out. THe volume of water poured out from Pail X was 5 times the volume of water poured out from Pail Z. Given that the 3 pails had the same volume of water left, find the volume of water in Pail Y at first.

      Hi AgonyMum,
Hope this help, by using models for question 2.
Start by drawing the number of units for Pail Z . Since 1/6 (1 unit) of d water was poured out, that means 5/6 (5 units) of the water was left.
Since all 3 pails would hv d same volume of water left, u can proceed to draw 5 units each for Pail Y n Pail X.
Since we do not know d value of 1 unit, I wrote +500ml for Pail Y together with d 5 units already drawn.
Draw 5 more units for Pail X since d amt of water poured out from Pail X is 5 times that of Pail Z.

      Hi Terry,

1 wk should b pretty sufficient, but again it depends on your kid. Some kids adapt really fast while some probably will take longer. Give your child lots of encouragement .

Don't forget to bring along your camera on that day. 😄
