May I ask if anyone here is familiar with what it's like for a VS student who takes the Music Elective Programme at an external center?


I was able to find a 2018 article saying that lessons are on Thu 3:30pm presumably at Dunman High.

Do they get held back a lot such that they are late for MEP lessons due to the need to travel?

Are the lesson times fixed every year (Thu 3:30pm)?

Are they able to drop F&C, D&T in the 1st 2 years because they take MEP?

I feel parents (myself included) tend to loose sight of the purpose of DSA. After our last PTM, qtns our teacher asked kept replaying in my mind and I’m so thankful he was so clear about it.


He asked what was our intension for DSA? Why must we DSA, can’t we just do PSLE? Straight answer was, what if he can’t get into a good school by PSLE, so competitive and what if he’s a few points short? Then I feel bad for treating DSA as a safety net, worried pple next time say he got in by back door etc. If parents feel this way, our kids will also feel it subconsciously.

Same for the students who apply, and then because of pride reject the school after DSA was unsuccessful, these students are approaching their secondary sch selection with the wrong intensions. If they aren’t selected thru DSA, perhaps there were too many applicants that qualify. As with all competitions, if you choose to compete, you have to prepare for wins and losses.

But DSA is not a competition, it is a means for, as clearly indicated on MOE DSA website, "P6 students can seek admission to certain secondary schools based on their talent in sports, CCAs and specific academic areas".

So anyway, my point is to rmb why we want/have to apply thru DSA. I think as long as our answer is not "because it’s FOC", we have done our job as parents.

Not all Pri schs care about students' outside achievements You're lucky if your school collates all the achievements and they will be reflected in the MOE system. If not, better have filed everything nicely to submit for DSA.
