      Hi Damien,

I agree. And please do not scold your child for not getting into DSA. Or if that's not what you mean, then for not being good enough.

Just to share, my son has been in his sports CCA since P2. He has two private coaches, and goes to his sports practice three times a week. He forges any free time after school and on weekends, to practise his sport. Sometimes late at night, after he comes back from practise, he is so tired and my heart weeps for him that he cannot rest. He still has school homework and tuition homework.

He is in the sports school team but not chosen by teacher to be captain. The teacher chose a more popular but less academically good boy to be captain. My son is vice captain, because nobody can deny he is passionate about his sport.

He applied to HCI, RI and ACS for sports DSA. But when he did not even get an e-interview for RI, his dream school, he was so discouraged that he stopped practising his sport. He even asked me, \"Daddy, why bother? I am not good enough.\" I do not know what to say.

How do you parents encourage your children for PSLE with DSA disappointments? It breaks my heart to see my son like this.
Hi, I had a similar experience with my son last year. My son is also P6 this year. My son also does sports.

He trains everyday and the training is oftentimes grueling. He often takes his lunch/dinner in the car on the way to/back from training. He also naps in the car. He is also often tired after training but still have to come back to finish his homework...

In a competition he participated last year, he did not play well and lost. He was disappointed. He came back and cried and just wanted to give up on the sport. My heart was broken, too.

I told him if he really did not like the sport, then let's pursue some other passion. But if he liked the sport, then he should persevere and not give up. Yes, he lost this particular time. What was the lesson(s) to be learnt to do better next time?

I let him cried himself to sleep that day.

      It was painful for me.

On hindsight, it is good that my son lost that day and had the time to ponder. I am glad that I was there to support him through the valley.

Today, he is still doing the sport. I hope that he will grow up to be resilient in the face of setbacks in life and keep moving forward.
