      Dear autolycus,

We would appreciate some advice from one who was in charge of intake.
What exactly are the requirements for successful candidates at ACSI-Express applying at S2 for S3 ACSI-IP in terms of academics achievement and extra-curricular activities etc.
My son did well this year, top the class in the STEM, A1 in Humanities only let down by a B3 in English.
      His school estimated L1R5 = 8
We gave up an IP place at VS after an encouraging meeting with the ACSI Principle to follow the express stream for S1 and S2 because we believed the holistic ACSI program is superior.

      Thanks for any help.

      Best Regards

Generally for lateral transfer S2E to S3IP, they're looking for 6 key subjects (L1, L2, Science, Maths, Humanities, one more) at 85% and above. If the general average is high enough, that will do too. The class teacher has to give a positive recommendation as well. CCA at this point should already be sufficient. Cheers!

Thank you for your reply and insight.

We hope he improves his English Language next year but is the 85% cut off fixed because for some subjects he scores well above and for others he is a few percentage below. His average for S1E is above 80% but below 85%.
With an improvement in his English we believe he could achieve an L1R5 of 6 or 7 before bonus point deduction giving him an excellent chance of competing for a good Junior College.
We would value your opinion whether the S3/S4IP IB-Mid Year Programme better prepares the student and adds to the chances of better IB scores.

      Regards

ACS(I) takes in students not only at S1 through normal posting but also at S2 and S3, but students coming it are subject to tests or other merit-based criteria. The number entering this way is actually very small; I was once in charge of intake and I think only about 1 out of 20 met the criteria. Once they've made the shortlist, a decision is made as to how many can actually be absorbed.

[quote=\"Siva101\"]I just got a call from ACS(I) saying that my son got into the year 3 ip programme there. He is currently in a different local school in singapore. Any thoughts or ideas about the school and its students?

      Siva,
This (ACS takes in students in Sec 3), was a news to me. I have sent you a PM. Can you reply that?
      Regards,

My daughter also has taken Chinese special program as 3rd language. She got Clementi Town Secondary School to study Chinese .

Hi my daughter registered in SCGS IP today. we did choose Chinese special program as 3rd language. she has been allocated to Changkat Changi secondary school for that very far from us( We live in CCK). I called school, they asked me to appeal to moe ... any one know any school in west or North offer Chinese special program or any advice?

      Thanks

I will be grateful for some assistance given your daughter has/is doing the Chinese Special Program as a Third Language.
My DS is exempt from Chinese as Mother Tongue for Primary School and PSLE which he took last year.
He has been getting a little Chinese tutoring but his skill is far below the average Singaporean!
Only recently have I become aware that he could take Chinese as part of the \"Special Program\" with the added benefit of a O level qualification and even TWO bonus point deduction from his L1R5!

My questions are when (date and time) are the after school sessions held?
Because my DS current time table is pretty heavy with TWO CCA and after school tutorials already.

I will be most grateful for any help.

Can I ask what happens with Mother Tongue exemption with English as the only Language (L1).

Does this mean that these children will not get the potential -2 bonus for HMT and thus never get the potential maximum of -4 points in the L1R5, leaving them at a greater disadvantage in applying for Junior College?

It occurs to me that for RI's cut off requirement of 3 to be met everyone must get at least a point deduction from HMT.

      1. Those students aren't at a greater disadvantage when applying for JC. They are only at a greater disadvantage when applying for RI and HCI.

      2. There are more than one way to earn those bonus points.

      Thank you for your reply.

According to the MOE FAQ each student is allowed a deduction of 4 points from their L1R5
      1. Two for a grade A1/A2 at CCA,
      2. Two for passing (A1-C6) English and HMT
      3. Two for passing MSP/CSP
      4. Two for coming from a feeder school.

If my DS does not take HMT, the only way to get more than two points is to take MSP/CSP or apply from a \"feeder\" school.

      Have I got this correct?

If so, with a mother tongue exemption can my DS apply to attend a CSP?

And will it apply as a \"third\" language as intended for bonus points?

      Thanks again for your help!!!!

EDIT: I am wondering if the Chinese Special Program(CSP) a mechanism to make up for the lack of MT and HMT. According to the MOE FAQ there is also a 2 point deduction offered if a pass mark at CSP O level is achieved.

I will be most grateful for any advice for a total novice!

    • RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

My son was admitted to Secondary ONE Express at Anglo Chinese School Independent missing out on the IP by one point.

Can anyone tell me what is the criteria for moving into the Year 3 Integrated Pathway stream after the second year please?

Should this even be his target for the next two year?

Thank you in advance for your advice!
