Hi! I'm a secondary school student who DSA'd by Mathematics, hope I can answer your queries.
Math Olympiad is purely a \"extra\" thing that does not affect PSLE scores, but some schools offer DSA Mathematics where it is more of math olympiad type, hence can just enter the schools without PSLE score if accepted by DSA. I believe application period for DSA 2021 has already ended (https://www.moe.gov.sg/secondary/dsa). In secondary school, if entered by DSA Mathematics, it is usually compulsory to attend Math Olympiad competitions and training. There is also NUS High which is more focused on Math and Science.
Usually I would say most of the questions in Math Olympiad are not really taught in school. Math Olympiad classes generally are more specialised to help in Math Olympiad competition and will be more challenging compared to normal syllabus mathematics. But some information taught in Math Olympiad training may help in normal syllabus mathematics.
Hope I helped

RE: All About Math Olympiad Training & Questions
Hi
I have a child in primary school and hope to understand more about Math Olympiad.
I know Math Olympiad teaches the more complex techniques to solve challenging Maths questions and preps students for competition. How are these techniques aligned to the material covered in primary school? Or Math Olympiad lessons are solely to prepare a student for the Math Olympiad competition?
Will participation in Math Olympiad in primary school allow an adjustment to the PSLE scores? Does it allow the student to select other special subjects to further their interest in Sec school?
Wanted to know the future academic paths available to the student who has shown interest in Maths Olympiad
Thanks
