There was a huge gap between the COP of RGS and Cedar last year and I believe that this gap of around 8 marks will be present this year as well. Hence, COP for both schools have to be considered. If aggregate is in high range (>261), RGS is recommended. Otherwise (<256/257), Cedar is likely to be a better choice since RGS is an unrealistic option.

However, the most important factor is how you/your daughter perceives the school and how much you like it. You can try to attend the open houses of both schools to get a better hang of the place and what it feels like. The open houses' dates should be on the schools' websites or another forum. If you/your daughter has a personal favourite, say Cedar, then that school may be a better choice. Another (Not so important) factor should be the choices of friends (Within same range as your child).

Dear parents, my daughter aggregate score is 251 with distinction in Higher Chinese. Her dream school is Dunman High but she's still 2 marks off last year's COP after counting in 3 points in HMT. If we put Dunman High as first choice, will she stand a chance? She told me she doesn't want to do appeal. So second choice I put River Valley High, last year COP is 251 should be quite safe? What if her score meets or exceeds COP for two or more schools in her option 2-6? How would posting be done? Will she be posted to the school that is ranked highest in her option preference and with COP that she met? Or will she be posted randomly to any of the schools in her option list which she meets COP?


Schools in her list: Dunman High, River Valley High, SCGS IP, Cedar IP, CHIJ St. Nicholas IP, Temasek JC.

Does the above list look ok? Although we stays in the east, she told me she doesn't mind taking the long MRT ride to RV High. Do you think long travel time is a big minus? Can anyone advise if Temasek JC is good? It is the nearest to my place.

How about Cedar? I heard some friends say it is not as good as SCGS, but Cedar ties up with Victoria JC for IP, while SCGS and CHIJ St. Nicholas state their IP JC is a \"new government JC\" on their websites. Should I still give preference to SCGS over Cedar despite that latter ties up with an established JC?

I think she stands a chance because the COP for high tier secondary schools this year may drop by a point or so....no guarantee though. It also depends on the number of pupils who want to apply to Dunman High and their PSLE scores. No harm putting Dunman High as first choice anyway If application is rejected, Dunman High must be placed as first choice to warrant an appeal (I think).

River Valley should be a safe second choice seeing the COP for it last year. However, this also depends on demand for the school so the COP may drop or increase by a few marks but a drop is expected.

Regarding the posting of secondary schools:
All students in Singapore are ranked from first to last.
The first student say Pupil A with an aggregate of 280 can definitely go to the first secondary school on his list for example Dunman High.
Now this process repeats itself for the remaining students until all available places in Dunman High have been taken up. (The number of places is decided by school)
The last pupil, Pupil B who successfully got admitted into Dunman High will have his aggregate taken to be the COP for the school. (For example 258)
Pupil C, the student just ranked behind Pupil B, may have put Dunman High as first choice, but is unable to enter the school as all places have been taken up and his rank falls behind Pupil B. He will then be posted to his second choice. However, his second choice may not be confirmed as other pupils earlier on in the ranking may have indicated his second choice as well. His second choice may not have any available slots to accept him. Then, his third choice will be considered etc.
Using back the example of Dunman High, all pupils with 258 and applied to Dunman High may not be admitted. This is because the aggregate actually has decimals but it is rounded up in the results slip. Pupils with the same aggregate may be in different ranks.
For example:
Pupil B: 258.4
Pupil 257.5
Pupil B has a higher rank and hence a higher chance of getting admitted to Dunman High.

Since your daughter does not mind taking the long MRT ride, River Valley is an acceptable choice as attractive-ness of the school will beat the journey to the school. Your list looks ok too

Nope. They will only look at your PSLE aggregate.

My dd scored 253 plus HMT 2 = 255 . ( 3 A* and 1 A)

Her first choice is Dunman High. however COP for past year was 256. Does she stands a chance? As we will be away on posting results, hope to submit more confident application.

I am asking whether there are any shower cubicles apart from the one in the ISH toilets as my DS is in a sports CCA and would like to shower in school before going home. He does not like to use the ISH toilets as it is pretty crowded there. Thanks in advance for answering my question.
