[quote="angel64"]It is common these days, parents are spending more for those ergonomic bags, like SPI, Deuter etc. Each cost more than $100 SGD.

I got mine when I was in HK, Dr Kong, equally good at a cheaper price.

Bag is heavy, as they have math / chinese /English file. In fact the 3 subjects are taught everyday, certain days, they are expected to bring art and craft stuff, Social studies book, etc.

Shoes I got those normal ones, but no need to use those white paint … I find it hassle. 2 pairs as the white shoes can turn into black shoes just in days, so alternate days, I change them and wash.

Now 4th term, we have to prepare them for the SA test … hectic esp I am a FTWM, reach home almost 8 ++ and I still have to teach him. I am like half dead … really not easy. Now I understand why some mothers quit their job. But at this junction, where dual income is needed to sustain a family. I choose to keep my job. So that we can plan for some extra enrichment classes, yr end holiday etc.

While I still have a job, I will work for it, till I have a golden hand shake, maybe time to slow down.[/quote

      Hi Angel64,

thanks for the valuable info, I saw the Dr kong bag at Kiddy palace (Nex shopping) price is also abt 100+ so if the price is abt the same as SPI / Impact. what would be the recommendation?

Indeed it definitely tough to survive with one income with so much to be taken care nowadays. Let hope our children will leave better than us.

Can I check whether do the P1 need to take up CCA, and if does normally it is on which day?

      Hi All,

I think there is nothing you can prepare for the orientation. But importantly is that your child has to be able to read independently for both languages.

Yes, I agree that the school chinese standard is high especially the Yun Yu. But look at the positive side, they start at high standard later on yrs they will see the fruit of it.

My boy currently is in P1, but if for a 7 year old child, i think we can't leave the child alone to cope with the school work. Yes it is quite heavy and we have to guide him along most of the time.

Despite there are no exams, but there are weekly chinese and English spelling, small test as well as those CA test and SA test as well. So to me I still regard those as like exams.

Just some advice, before orientation, try to get your child into some reading by himself/herself. They do ask some question with regards to the reading of the passage to gauge their level of comprehension. Some children can read perfectly but level of comprehension may not be there.

These are some advices I will share from my last yr's experience.

      Hi angel64,

thanks for the advice for the orientation that we will be experiencing this Novemeber.

definitely it is nice for parent to share with us newbies whom is sending our darling in Poi ching next year. Can i ask what is the usual number of book that they will be bringing to school for the 1st year, this is to source for school bag.

Hi coolarse, welcome on board! You are also a parent volunteer? So we most probably have met during one of the volunteering sessions. šŸ™‚ yes, the orientation will be on 18 Nov, 2pm. Meanwhile, do get your DS prepared for the assessment that will be held that day. Based on last year, items will include reading from vocabulary list, comprehension and hanyu pinyin.

Will update again if I have more information.

      Regards šŸ™‚

Hi, I am not in the PV scheme, so we may not have met. Thanks for the info, I have read in this forum that Poi Ching conduct assessment, so it is truth that will be. Not sure hw can we prepare our kids, definitely will be great if you can share .

      Hi parents of Poi Ching,

I have enrolled my DS under phase 2B (under parent volunteering) and will be in p1 next year.

After reading about the workload of the p1s posted by many parents, I'm quite concern as I have actually planned to go back to full time work when my DS enters p1 next yr... šŸ˜ž

Are there any parents out there whose children are entering p1 in 2012? Good if we can form a support group like what the parents of this year's p1 students did. Hear from you guys soon!

hi, have also enrolled by DS to Poi Ching under phase 2b, P1 in 2012. Will be glad to join the support group. The orientation is on 18 Nov.
