    • RE: Application for NUS/NTU Medicine 2024/2025

Lucid, I do honestly pray the situation has improved.

With regards to your statement of friends sending their children to Uk / AUS, the teaching style in Australia is way different than SG. Teachers / professors are more open and receptive to feedback. They encourage children so much. But sometimes too much friendliness backfires - as they cheeky kids can take advantage and misbehave in class.

I have seen the colleges in Australia (Monash, Deakin etc. are like 15 mins from my home). And I visited UK med school as DD had to go for face-to-face interview, the college vibe is entirely different. Everyone from students walking in campus, the cafe, library, admin team is very supportive and full of support. The office admin lady in fact stopped what she was doing and took me on a quick tour of the campus facility when she heard I came all the way from Australia. It's so vibrant and there is so much acceptance on students from different backgrounds. No wonder many prospective students go to UK or AUS if the parents can afford.

But for this to occur in SG, it's not just the faculty - rather the whole society has to change. Us Singaporeans do get caught in our day-to-day life and try to be brisk & efficient in everything we do. Sometimes, this leads us to be just too direct and serious. Now when I return, I see lot less smiles when I walk on SG roads vs what I see in UK/AUS.

May be now when I visited SG and went for a quick walk on the road or just in the lift, people may have thought - \"Who is this mad woman and why is she smiling at me and saying Hello when I don't know her? LOL šŸ˜†

Well, I am biased, and I love my SG in all its shades.

It is indeed hard to use someone else's references to gauge. Hope parents and candidates are doing their own due diligence. Definitely go and see the university for own self and talk to existing cohort.

I honestly have not done any research into Dentistry into NUS. But to even imagine the possibility of students being left to fend for themselves to get patients to practice on or for assessment is appalling. Hope this situation has gone. :xedfingers:
Hi Mother777, would you share which uk medical schools your daughter has applied to? My gal is not successful for local schools but receives offer from the uk. not sure about letting her go all by herself. Still hope to reapply as the uk costs are really high. but your post on uk uni encourages us. Thank you!
