stetan:I presume your job also requires you to be at office before 730am every working day without fail, rain or shine, MRT breakdown or not ?doodley:
Long hours? Without listing here, we also know there are many who work long hours, bring back their work, go the extra mile, etc etc. Not just teachers..
No. 5.25am to be precise. And I also work shifts. Teachers no leave? Teachers no holidays? Teachers no course to attend?doodley:Do you own a car ? If yes, why? You should probably just take Grab, its cheaper.Just because no free parking, teachers cannot bring back books to mark? There is grab/taxi. If you calculate, it is still cheaper than owning a car...
No I don't. Public transport is my main mode of transport.doodley:You do have such lowly perceptions of teachers. But the truth is there are also many who teach because there is no other jobs available to them. And after teaching for a few years, it's just easier to stay put and get promoted....
It's not lowly perception. It's just stating a fact. You conveniently left out that I acknowledge there are teachers who teach because they have a passion and calling.doodley:A few black sheep out of 33,000 teachers out there and that is enough for you to condemn the whole lot. I applaud you reasoning.teacher as mentor / part-time parent / counsellor? Just because there are some of such teachers doesn't mean all teachers are like that. In fact, it's not too good to be too close to teachers. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/vice-principal-accused-of-committing-indecent-acts-on-underage-9184362 See what can potentially happen when you look up to an educator as standin-parent/mentor/counsellor . ....
No where did i condemn the whole lot. I'm just saying things can potentially happen. Out of all these sexual abuse cases that happen in schools, they're mostly committed by educators that are close to the victims. By being too close to teachers, sometimes the line becomes blur. I know of parents who always gift their kids' teachers. These kids don't get into teacher's bad books. And you have teacher's playing favouritism leading to unfair opportunities. You may deny it but these are widespread cases.doodley:You just don't get it. It is the simple gestures that counts. It is not about pleasantry in paying or not. It's never pleasant when we have to start paying for something which was free for the longest time. But let's not put the teaching profession above every other profession. Teachers are indispensable and so are a host of other professions.
Free parking is a great gesture based on the tangible and intangible calculation some forumers made of the parking fees.
by the way, pleasantry means \"an inconsequential remark made as part of a polite conversation\" or \"a mild joke\".
Teachers are important, and so is every body else holding an honourable profession. That's my point.
To argue that the teaching profession is more honourable than others and therefore deserving of free parking is just flawed. Teachers make sacrifices, so do other professions. Teachers' family life is affected, so are others. It's up to you to adjust your schedules/expectations to make the best of the situation.
i guess we were told different things by different people.
