I wonder why different schools release at different days..maybe to minimize prepping time? I feel that it would be good if moe could give all participants a letter to inform parents of the 1st round outcome It serves as a form of closure.

Agree. My DD asked when the result is out and I asked why. She said she wanted to know where she did wrongly and felt a bit disappointed when I told her that the result is to be kept confidential, let alone test papers.

Based on your sharing, if I interpret correctly, although CHIJ Toa Payoh primary had taken in roughly 25 new Transfer students at end of 2016 P2, starting a new academic year in 2017 P3, 25 is not the final number, yet.

At end of P3, after the release of P3 Gep Round 2 results announcement in late October after SA2 / early November, each year -
if CHIJ TP still have the capacity to absorb some more candidates, she can still take in some more new Transfer students.
This pattern continue until towards end of P4, where IJ TP will stop taking in because by then, PSLE is too near for any more Transfer.
25 thereabout, is not the final figure yet.
25 roughly is a temporary figure, at end of P2 only. There is still end of P3, or end of P4, to consider.

Not sure whether end of P5, IJ TP still take in any more Transfer students. Those who are keen, may call up the school, to check.


By the way, quite a number of primary schools in Singapore had already implemented the new streaming method, ie. no more existence of Top class throughout the entire cohort level, starting from P3 onwards.
Instead, all P3 level classes have turned into \"Mixed Ability\" classes : whereby students are Banded by individual subject(s) , depending on their subject mastery competency level, so to facilitate the subject Teachers to teach cohort at either a faster pace, at moderate pace, or at slower pace.

Thus, when school bell ring for a change of lessons, the students will just pick up their books, move & switch around, moving to a different smaller assigned group classes, ie. to their assigned Higher ability subject learning class, or to a normal regular ability class, or to a Bridging slower-paced subject learning class. This is called \"Subject banding\", a trend which MOE prefer our primary schools to move towards to.

Other than the 4 subjects' (Eng, Maths, Science, Mother Tongue) different paced of learning groups, rest of the time, students remain inside the same class : to attend the same PE, same Art, same Music, same Chinese Civics Moral lessons, etc.


However, in the context of CHIJ family -
most of the CHIJ primary school are still following the old, traditional method.
ie. at end of P2, students got streamed into P3 a few Top classes, while rest of remaining cohort entered the \"Mixed Ability\" classes.
Usually, students enter \"Mixed Abilty\" classes : because they tend to be weak in one of the subjects, normally, is either Chinese or Maths. As such, during streaming, they missed out entering one of the Top few classes. However, they are still strong in other subjects, apart from the one they tend to be weak in. Hence to answer your question, \"Mixed Ability\" is definitely NOT a low ability class, because they are still strong in other subjects. Which subject they are weak in : they will know, as the Report card content reflect this.


P3 & P4 : students remain inside the same class, for 2 years
end of P4 : streaming again, into new P5 class

P5 & P6 : students remain inside the same class


Since your daughter had already Transferred in successfully, she can ask her fellow classmates discreetly , which are the Top few P3 classes, out of Total seven 2017 P3 classes at CHIJ TP, for her batch (born 2008). They should be able to tell her, since they had already been streamed, at end of P2. It is ok, to ask her fellow classmates, as they are in the same class, they would have known something about their own class. But do not pose this type of question in your class whatsapp chatgroup (eg if you happen to be in one), because it is a sensitive question. Some parents inside the WA chatgroup, may not like.

Sorry but really depends on the principals , IJ Tpy is very resistant to inter IJ transfer..

I know because got a friend that has been trying since last yr...

seven P3 classes : means, can absorb up to max (7 x 40) = Total max 280 pupils

what's the difference ?
280 - 210 ==> 70 more

means in Theory, or on paper :
it is possible to accomodate another 70 more new students, for Transfer into CHIJ Toa Payoh, starting P3 January, up to that very last Primary level Cut-off, whereby still permitting Transfer to do so.

not sure if IJ Toa Payoh allow P5 outsiders to Transfer in, as P5 is very close to P6 PSLE.

But in reality :
will school absorb another 70, so many for Transfer ?
That will depend on what IJ Toa Payoh has in mind, in her Transfer selection criteria set.
if school is selective, cannot find suitable candidates to fill the gap, unlikely to offer 70, perhaps only a handful will get.

But yearly, after sitting for two round of P3 Gep Screening tests, there may be students leaving the school when offered Gep by MOE, Transfer out to Gep school (P4 to P6), thus creating vacancies for outsiders to come in.

will be from the pile of yearly Transfer applications received, from several parents of outside schools.

These outside students can come from SAP schools, or can also come from non-SAP schools, including inter-Transfered IJ students.

naturally, Principal or VP will plan her own selection criteria.
if can find good quality candidates amongst the pile of yearly Transfer applications received, very keen to transfer in, they will consider.

My daughter just transferred in to IJ TP P3. Last Tue is the first day and I was there also. About 20-25 girls were waiting for Linda in the canteen before they were led to the hall. Also my DD told me that her class has 34 people, which indirectly affirms the figure (about 25) is correct. This means that they didn't take-in 70 as calculated in theory.

May I know if they did any streaming at end of P2? My DD notice that the girls don't seem to come from the same P2 class. She is in Violet, what level is this class? Is mixed ability considered low ability?
