Hi, any mummies here have a maths tutor to recommend? Or know of any centre that coaches RGS maths? My girl is in year 3 this year.. thanks
Hi, we have a branch at Braddell MRT which is very near to RGS. Got classes catered to RGS students, a few tutors are ex RGS teachers. Will PM you for the details.
Thanks.

Thank you for your reply, masteryourmath .

The topic on General Wave Properties.
Thank you.
Hi S Mummy,

SPA on general wave properties may test candidates' understanding of types of wave, like either longitudinal wave or transverse wave. Then assess the student's skills to find wavelength, speed, period and etc.

Must revise graphical representation of waves and the terminologies (e.g. frequency, period, wavelength, speed, amplitude, crest and tough and etc.).

Cheers!

hi grandmasters

My daughter joined Guzheng CCA in second half of P2 and she is recently selected to go to SYF group in P3. Teacher in charge told me that this SYF group is training to compete in SYF in 2018 (i.e when DD in P4). The external instructor has asked daughter to purchase a Guzheng for home practice. I thought I may as well think about using Guzheng as possible DSA for daugher in future (aiming for Dunman High). So I asked the external instructor about how to get her graded. She asked me to consider NAFA which will start weekend class in May 2017.

Questions:

1. Is NAFA very demanding on time? While I hope DD can pursue Guzheng, I do not wish to stress her out

2. I read on NAFA website that the course is for \"Gifted Young Chinse Instrumentalist\" and need to go audition. I am not sure if daughter is indeed \"gifted\". But her instructor is also teaching at NAFA and says she can arrange for daughter to take her classes. Any idea if it is hard to get into NAFA?

3. If I want to use Guzheng as DSA, is it possible to just let daughter continue her CCA in school without obtaining certification (less stressful this way)? Or does she need to attend NAFA lessons / other private lessons and sign up for grading at NAFA?

Hi beautyseek,

Heard that NAFA piano programme is super high standard though very stressful. Not sure about Guzheng though.

Good luck to your child!

Hi Everyone

Like 'totallyeclipsed' did 3 years ago, my family and i will be returning to Singapore in July with our P6 daughter who will finish G6 (IB) here in Germany by then. We are also going to put her to SPERS in Sep for S1 postings.
Was wondering if 'totallyeclipsed' or any parents out there who can share your experience through the process.
I'm really concerned if my daughter can manage the Singapore exam format.
Is it a good idea to put her to a primary school from July to Sep or should i just give her private tuition in the 3 months to prepare for SPERS?
Would really appreciate any advice i can get.
Thanks a zil!

Hi tinalimct,

Why not put her to a primary school and give her a private tuition at the same time?
i.e. go to a local school in the morning and give her a private tuition after school.

To get prepared for SPERS, 3 months is not a very long period of time. Your daughter needs to study all P5 and P6 topics as she plans to go to Sec 1 next year.

Just to share with you, our centre had 2 students who prepared for SPERS for 5 and half months last year. They had private tuition with us everyday for 4 hours (2 hours for Math and 2 for hours English). They did very well and went to RI and crescent girls in the end.

Hope it helps.

If one school is 30 minutes away and another is 50 minutes away, is it wiser to choose the nearer one or does 20 minutes difference not a major concern? Both are very good schools but with different culture.

One day about 40min to and fro, in terms of difference of travelling time.
If he likes the culture of the school, even it is further away from home, shall still go for that school. as u mentioned, both are good schools. 🙂
May i find out how many vacancy are there for DSA in ACSI? DSA only for express stream or IB too?

For last year (2017 Year 1 Intake), 80 for IP and 50 for Express.
You can choose DSA Express or IP or both.

Thanks! Didn't know we can DSA for IB. Tks
Hi blessmum 4, as mentioned by coast, ACSI IP program is for IB.
After Year 4, the students will be promoted to Year 5 and then Year 6 to do IB.
They do not take O level and they are in the \"IP\" track.

it's STRESSFUL being a parent now...from the day the child is born, preschool, primary school, secondary school, JC/poly etc etc. we have to follow the changing education system.

it is particularly stressful, on 3 days :-

- PSLE results release day,

- \"O\" level results release day,

- \"A\" level results release day.

agreed!
Also the days for primary 1 registration for parents whose children need to go through balloting.

i got one 2012 dragon boy as well. aiming for nan chiau primary school. anyone knows if the school still open for PV ?

Nan Chiau Primary does not have a PV scheme. While you can either join the Grassroots or the clan if you intend to enter via Phase 2B, those routes are already closed for 2018 P1 registration.

I am afraid balloting within 1km for Phase 2C is your only bet.

That is right. Nan Chiau no more PV. Only left with grassroots for 2B. But it is now too late liao.

Can try your luck at 2C.
Good luck!
