zeemimi:Usually about 80 - 90 students get into IB from the Express stream, I think. But this year the numbers are much lower. If no one got in from 2.5 to 2.8, that is quite unusual actually.I heard fr ds none fr 2.5 to 2.8 got in. I don't know if that is the norm.growupmom:The results of admission into year 3 IB are out. Has there been a reduction in the number of students admitted to Year 3 ? Any reasons ? Does that mean the cohort size of IB students in ACS(I) will be smaller than previous years. Does anyone have any news :?:
autolycus : Any expert insights please ?

Hope that his S1 posting will have good news so he totally forget about the special NUS High.
Good luck. I hope your DS gets into his school of choice. -

sg.angel:
My girl just told me her friend receive news from NUSH that she got in. Her score is around 256.
Congrats to your DD's friend!!
That is like 6 points below last year's COP. I know NUSH looks for students with keen interest in Science and Maths and maybe the COP is not a perfect gauge. But still like to see this as the probability of a 6 point difference in the COPs from last year -
Good luck to all for the S1 posting results! -
RE: Why I think psle 2013 cop for 2014 sec 1 intake will drop
piggybank:
I really fear 'freakish' COP such that the first tier schools (RI, HCI, RGS, NYGS) will level down to 258/7/6 while next tier schools (NJC, RV, ACSI (IB), MGS (IB) etc) maintain or even level up to 256/7/8. Then, all hell will break loose.
Oh dear!! Piggybank : The thought of what you said gives me the jitters. It is possible, depends on how the S1 choices have pitched the supply and demand. Then the second tier schools have become more sought after - as kids COPs were lowe, parents decided to play it safe and chose the 2nd tier schools :nailbite:
:scratchhead:
Then come 20th December, the number of appeals will be mind blowing too

RE: Secondary School Selection 2013
S1 posting timeline ended. Hope everyone has made wise choices based on the their child's results and whatever other information you had. Good luck to everyone and hope your children get into their dream schools. :grphug: . Thanks to all the KSP members who had helped me in my decision making process.

RE: Why I think psle 2013 cop for 2014 sec 1 intake will drop

Thanks for your explanation - understood the process better - so there will not be any students with multiple COs.
Students whose WLs have been converted to COs do not participate in S1 posting. These students must have placed the school (eg. RI) as 1st choice in their DSA Option Forms, in the hope that their WLs would be converted to COs on PSLE results release day.growupmom:
Parents are getting so many varied versions about the COPs this year that it is just getting so frustrating.
There may have been many WL converted to CO for RI, but we do not know how many of those converted CO were accepted. GEPers usually are sought after by many schools and it is no secret that many have multiple CO/WL. They may have chosen other schools over RI too. NUSH is very popular among GEPers too. Did RI reveal how many seats are left for S1 posting, that may be of great help to parents.
I think the education minister is trying hard to make all schools good schools, but some top schools are so afraid their COPs may drop and hence looking to fill their seats with the 'sure' (aka GEPers) top scorers. So what if the top tier schools' COPs go down, any harm to their image?? We have been told to look beyond the 3 digit PSLE scores, I think it is time the education minister spoke to the principals too about this. Whats in the 3 numbers anyways right

When that happens, it means the school has accepted the student, and the student cannot apply to other schools coz he/she cannot participate in S1 Posting. Anyway, why would anyone wana reject a CO to his/her dream school, especially a CO which has been converted from a WL (after all these months of anxiety & waiting)?
Btw.. Do you seriously think the top schools are afraid that their COPs will drop by a few points ? Even if that happens, the COPs of all other schools will move downwards along with theirs. These top schools will remain as \"top schools\", no matter what happens to their COPs..
Could that be a co-incidence then that more WLs got converted to CO? Is it that some of the students with CO from RI went to other schools so the WLs got converted? Or it is a change of strategy by RI to fill in more seats via DSA this year. We do not know, but surely it will be helpful to know the number of seats available for S1 posting. -

:goodpost: Thanks for sharing.
Second that.callaway18:
My DS got 255 last year.
He decided to try for ACS IP but missed out by one point ( decided against going to many IP schools in the process ).
Got into ACS Express. Class is made up of students with a spread of 50 points.
He's never been happier:
1. Scoring high 70s in his exams in year 1.
2. Playing first team for a competitive CCA.
3. Keeping his fingers crossed for IP transfer in year 2.
4. Not as stressed as before.
5. Really having a great time.
Point is, let the kid enjoy his time. We can plan and plan but they will find their way.
As for me, if he messed up the transfer to IP next year there will still be ACJC.
I'm calm. Never been calmer.
My son missed the cut off for IP by 3 points 2 years ago and ended up in ACSI Express (He was from GEP, had a PSLE score way below expectation, and his RI DSA wait list did not materialize into a CO).
He probably had the most stress free life in his school years for the past 2 years.
Joined a uniform group for the first time (which everyone needs to) plus another CCA.
Did OK for his year 1 and 2 exams I guessed
And made it to IP for next year.
Life will probably not be so easy anymore for him from next year onwards.
He was not that happy going to ACSI at first as most of his friends were in that school in Bishan but now he really loves ACSI. -

I think it is not right to say RI WL was never converted into CO in the past. There are some but not many. Personally I think more WL are converted because over these years, NUSH has gained its popularity. There could be more students accept co fr nush and reject ri as compared to a few years ago. Hence more Ri WL are converted.ngl2010:
We went to RI consultation session this afternoon. The staff said that RI's COP won't drop so much. Maybe only to 261-262.
I noticed that this year RI offered Confirmed Offer (CO) on GEPpers on Waiting List (WL). RI never did like that in the last few years. RI's WL is seldom converted into CO. By taking more GEPpers, RI can maintain high COP. It is really like a number game. They are beating the statistician's game that tries to converge the COP numbers.
There may have been many WL converted to CO for RI, but we do not know how many of those converted CO were accepted. GEPers usually are sought after by many schools and it is no secret that many have multiple CO/WL. They may have chosen other schools over RI too. NUSH is very popular among GEPers too.
