Saw this article in Zaobao a while ago. Looks like the new P is making quite a number of good changes.

      https://www.zaobao.com.sg/forum/views/talk/story20190604-961912

      (copied from the article)

So does that hint that those that join the sch without HMT will all have a choice to take HMT lessons without any selection, and probably can to take HMT O lvl at the end?

Hi!! I am graduating fm NC this year and is deciding between NY and Hwach for JC. Had a hard time deciding as both JCs looks promising for academic performance and CCA. Heard some of my friends say that their seniors said service learning (sort of cip stuff) counts in the portfolio. Also, I am thinking of putting more on service learning

So I was thinking if I can learn more from another perspective (apart from what I got from seniors whom I know and at open-houses) about how both school go about this service learning thing, such as how much the school emphasise on it, how easy in the school environment to kick start such a project etc.

Hope to hear from any parents or NC seniors who are currently studying or graduated from NY or Hwach. Also, will be great to hear about how its like in other JCs too! ^.^ Thanks!!
      PMed u 👍

      Hi all! 😄

Just want to seek some advise (on behalf of my dear) on the best way to wash the white uniform, especially to prevent the shirt from becoming yellowish. (and also the metal buttons) Never washed a full white shirt before... 😓

Will it be advisable to wash the shirt separately or can just put together with the washer?
For me I always rinse the uniform shirt with a little bit of bleach for a while and scrub the collars, den use quickwash in washer with a little bit of Vanish powder and softener. Buttons maybe try to do like cross stitch with double thread on top of the original stitch, and tie the thread after every 2 to 3 rounds. Quick lasting for my DS his uniform buttons hadn't dropped out since year 2.

    • RE: Kids Smart Watch - Pls recommend

      Hi

Anyone using smart watch for kids? Can you please recommend the model and which online site or shop that I can buy from.

I need to get for my kids to ensure they reach home safely after school and also for monitoring their movements at home or outside. I know some comes with GPS and camera function which can be quite pricely.

      :thankyou:

Have you checked with your kids’ school whether smart watch is allowed? It can be leceh if your kids need to surrender his/her watch every time they have tests.

By right is strictly not allowed for exams. In O Levels and A Levels the regulations explicitly states no smart watches. So likely SEAB and schools would have did the same for PSLE and sch based exams.

Anyway my opinion is it don't make much a point to monitor kids so aggressively. I am quite sure u won't want to have a fall out with ur kids when they feel u r interfering too much or to make ur kid become very in-confident. indecisive or overly reliant thinking that their parents will attend to everything in their life. Anyway we grew up without all these tech, there is no reason why our kids cant survive and take care of themselves without us monitoring.

      Hope this may help.

NUMBER 1 thing is to know what he wants and likes to. It will be a torture to read a subject that u don't like and don't have interest in. Just like your parents forced u to stay in NYJC when you wanted and can go to HCJC (its a painful story but proves the point)

Quite concise of ur viewpoint above

But why did u resent NYJC so much tho? NYJC also quite decent mah. :scratchhead:

Hi! Just wanted to ask how is Nanyang JC's Chinese Language Elective Programme (the 语特 programme) different from other JCs, especially on the syllabus and style of teaching? Heard NYJC is one of the few JCs which picks local theatre arts by 郭宝昆 as their elective syllabus, while the others taught 老舍's 茶馆 😮 Also heard fm a teacher dat NY is the only JC with CLEP taught by local teachers, of which a number graduated from HCJC and NYJC itself and the yearly results seems to be not bad. My elder child was considering it as a possible option after attending an intro sharing by JCs offering that programme at her secondary school. Hope to gain more insights of it! 🙂

It is quite true of what u heard IMO. 😄 NY was indeed one of the couple of JC which choose 郭宝昆's work when that new syllabus came out a few years back. Another thing is that if heard correctly, for next year the syllabus will be updated, which another local cultural work by 郭宝昆 named《㗝呸店》(1986) will replace《小白船》(1982). 老舍's 《茶馆》may be out of the syllabus. Still waiting for the new syllabus document to be made available to public. (this was touched on by a tutor who teaches CLL in NY during a sharing session).

Another point is that NYJC's principal Mr Low was the 2nd batch CLEP graduate from HCJC. So will likely to positively impact the CLEP programme at NYJC since he would already have a better understanding on the programme and its needs and focus as a former LEP student. 😉

Thats great to know! Tks @Eddisema for the info. 🙂 :thankyou:

I can't remember exactly :scratchhead: ... If not wrong dat day she said some hotel in City Hall, can see St Andrew Cathedral one.

Is it the 5 star Fairmount Hotel? http://www.fairmont.com/singapore/ Near Bras Basah? It would be quite worth the $90 if it is held there.

Perhaps dat wasnt what the students are looking out for? Guess the sch shd have done smthing abt it given it is quite a big sunk cost to book such venue :moneyflies:

Tbh actually if the students enjoyed thr 2 yrs in JC and had forged lasting friendships, den going without a legit prom event dont really matter much le (dats our mentality back den). If dats how the students r looking at it den dats really commendable le... nowadays not easy to find so many young people having such realistic mentality le. 🙂
