How does students from nygh mix and learn from and with students with other races in nygh since there is no other race, except chinese in nygh, please explain?

No offence, but you really seem to have a lot of misconceptions abt NYGH.

Besides chinese, there are other races & nationalities in NYGH, as well as other SAP schools.

aiyo, tok so much, already not happy sure can find 1001 reasons to find fault

Yes, so sad that some parent(s) just can't accept DSA rejection by schools & keep going merry go round, unfair on this & that. If i'm NYGH P, I will be also glad that I had made the right decision.

To all 2016 P6 parents & students who intend to dsa, pls pls plsssss manage yr own expectations first. Don't bear a grudge against a school juz because they dun offer a CO to your child or to someone u know who is top, top, top in everything in pri sch.

I knew that student. she was also Character Award winner from the primary school. I knew her personally. We felt for this. Nygh shd give a clearer explanation for that girl. Not use \"Diversity\" to cover up the reason behind their decision which they are not willing to be honest about it.

If they don want too many students from the same sxhool, then, should state so before everyone start to apply.

You know but nygh does not know

Everything was submited to nygh, if nygh does not know? Then, is worst, on what basis are they choosing their student? Randomly? Relationship? Who know who? WhiCH primary school they were from?.....

Every school has their own standard for whatever award they want to give. Not every school has character award also. Same for top student - every school is different standard until they are ranked by T-score

If nygh suspect her ability? Why nygh did not give her test? Is this fair?

For her, no test, invited for tea and eat burger... ask casual question.... then, rejection.

And that girl is applying through academic route.
Who still think nygh is logical? Justifiable to reject her based on what they have done?

Pirated, she eventually scored above 275. good luck to you, if you still think nygh is right.[/quote]No offence, but this is a very true example of parents who need to manage their own expectations first.

Top acad student in A sch, top all-rounder student, top PSLE scorer does not equate to good performance in dsa burger + drink session (or other sch nterviews). Unless u are present in the burger + drink session & personally witness how outstanding the girl has performed vs others in same grp who receive CO, only then u have a valid stand to challenge the school's decision.

Believe it or not, sometimes things happen for a reason.

      BigDevil:
A word of advice regarding DSA via sports/CCA.

The schools are looking for the best. Only the cream of the
      crop will get a CO.

So for non-group sports/CCA such as track & field, badminton,
chess, etc, you jolly well be a national athlete, or won some
tournaments. You will stand a better chance if you
have some hardware to show for your abilities.

For group CCA, then it's even harder.
Eg Chinese Dance, you'd better be the lead dancer...you know,
front row, middle dancer. If not, then it is highly unlikely you can
even get an invitation for trial.

For group sports like soccer and basketball, I have heard
that secondary school coaches/scouts will attend primary school
regional tournaments to identify the players with potentials.
So tell your child to play well as he/she might be having
      an \"interview\" without knowing it.
Yr cream of e crop refers to national players? If yes, not necessary, coz it depends on demand & supply, as well as which schs u are targeting. Some sch team players only take part in inter sch tournaments, but not external tournaments. However, they perform well during the dsa trials & interview, & were offered COs also.

In DS's school, third language can replace the grade of either Geography or History in Year 1 and 2. How about other schools? Can 3rd Lang replace other subject's GPA?

      Similar practice in dd's school.

Wat abt NYGH/RGS? Can 3rd language be used to replace the grade of either Geography or History in Year 1 and 2?

      Need some advise here.

      Sorry, What is TCC?
When do the students start using the Ipads? Sec One or Two? Is it subsidised?
Seems that the teachers uses notes and not the textbooks, in that case, do they even need to buy the textbooks?

Hello! I'm not from a TCC Class, so this is all I know about TCC.
TCC ( The Connected Classroom) is a program that has an emphasis on linking different subjects together and working in groups. (It was started this year.)
TCC is much more hands on and group work and presentations are much more common - so they count a bigger weightage to our MSG.
The curriculum is pretty much the same, just that there's more 'out of the box' thinking. Also, TCC has this subject called CU3 - or common unit. This subject is basically a lot of group work and presentations that combine different subjects and if I'm not wrong it consisted of nearly 30% of our EOY!
TCC is completely optional - interested students and parents signed up on reporting day. Students who get into TCC are randomly selected. In my year, there were 3 TCC classes, so around 60 students.
For example, a History assignment in TCC could include Geography. For TCC students, they start using iPads from Sec 1 whereas the rest of us buy iPads at the end of sec 1 and start using them from sec 2. The school has a vendor that offers subsidised prices for certain models and we order through them - of course you can buy on your own.
Textbooks are not necessary ( from what I experienced this year) but good for additional practice and reference!
      Hope I helped šŸ˜„

      Juxta,

Thanks. Yr info is very useful for new parents.

For the iPad in Sec 2, what's the min requirement?
      eg. iPad2 acceptable?

      16/32/64GB?

Wifi + Cellular or just Wifi model is acceptable?

I just checked with dd and she says notes are given to students and these are what they use in school. In general, textbooks are more like your own reading materials.

I got for dd the hard copy, so I don't know about the compatibility with ipad2.

Btw, the ipad 1:1 programme only starts from Sec 2 unless you opt for TCC classes in Sec 1.

My teachers hardly touched the textbooks - I sometimes use it for additional exercises and reference, but otherwise it isn't used in lessons. Unless you are in TCC ( which uses ipads), most people use the hardcover copy. If you want something to refer to, then there's no harm in buying. Otherwise I think it's okay not to buy!

TCC : How many vacancies are there in yr 1? Does the sch select the girls or anyone can opt in?

Understand that Yr 1 students can choose betw e-book or hard copy print for Sci (Biology & Chemistry).

      * Which is recommended or more widely used in NYGH?

      * For those who choose e-books, the girls will bring their own iPads to sch? Is the e-book compatible with iPad2 WIFI?

Anyone can advise on print or ebook option?

Btw, heard that teachers hardly use the math & sci textbks. Is it true? If yes, is it ok not to buy?
