Hi, does anyone know of Temasek Primary School’s PV requirements? I saw that for 2012, even those staying within 1 km has to ballot!!! There will be a new condo’s (ECO) TOP around 2015/2016, it means the situation is going to get worse for those going to register for TPS within 1 km.

A child’s behaviour whether in school or public is a direct reflection of his/her parent’s upbringing at home. Undeniably, before a child entered any formal education in school, major & important influences of his/her behaviour are from home. I once overheard a conversation btw the preschool principal and the teacher complimenting on the thoughtful behaviour of a student, the principal commented that "you should see that her mom is such a lovely woman". On a SQ flight to Singapore, the boy sitting behind me is so demanding and rude to the stewardess, that’s because his father told him he can asked for anything he wants anytime and its free!!!

Thanks nlimm, phtthp for the advice. From what I analyse from the P1 registration, the safest bet is still to PV even if i’m within 1 km of TPS. Guess I’ll need to go to the school in due time to find out more about its PV system.


I’m enjoying my little girl who’s turning 3 soon and dread the prospect of her entering formal school. Every morning when she wakes up & enthusiastically asks for homework assignments, I’m thinking inside me "heh…heh…you don’t know the meaning of homework yet, wait till you are P1". I hv seen my nephew & niece who are both in Tao Nan chasing to cope with their homework, somehow lost the free spirit & enthusiasm they used to have before entering primary school.

I read that some parents even PV for 2 schools so that they can have a chance to eventually choose the school they want their child to go. This is kinda of not fair right? Given the limited spaces for PV where demand outstrips supply, many parents have to face the disappointment of rejection & thus the chance to be in the Phase 2B selection. Shouldn’t this PV system be regulated too like the eventual application of P1 registration when parents can eventual apply for only 1 school only for Phase 2B selection.

I’m going to resettle in the East again soon, after giving up hope to live near the very sought after Tao Nan, next choice is Haig Girls when not able to find a reasonably price place within the 1 km. Eventually settled near Temasek Primary. When I told my friends about it, they said huh?? Neighbourhood school in Bedok?? Now I’m feeling the stress whether it is a good school and that with this PV system, whether I should even bother to PV for it when the time arrives.

I’m a late mummy with only child. Used to laugh at those who are so suck into the P1 registration system until now when I have one and everybody start stressing to me abt it! Forgive my ignorance, what’s the latest vibe about parental volunteer system. I was under the impression those who stay within 1 km of the school would be given priority, unless it is over subscribe, then priority would be given to those who volunteer. Recently I learnt that it is the reverse. Parents who volunteer will have priority and when PV is more than the places available, then priority would be given to those who stay within 1 km. I thought this PV system will be scrapped for good! In fact, I read on Sunday Times that the very popular schools have raised the bars to increase more hours and seek for ‘proposals’ to improve the school’s supposedly already high education standards.

Kudos to you James! I shared exactly the same sentiment as you on Brighton Montessori. I’m fed up with the incessant fee hike. Last yr, they increase the fees citing renovation improvements to the premise, I can understand the need to do so. But within 1 yr, they announce another increase due to operating cost!Common, operating costs??? On what???


In the past, parents paid fees direct/giro to the school, now all the payment are managed one roof by KU!

Fees notice are now sent by emails, no more papers and paperwork! Just a click of the button.

I’m shocked to receive direct call from the teacher to personally coordinate on parent teacher meeting. In the past, notice is issued & admin to arrange. The teacher is supposed to concentrate on teaching not co-admin too!!!

The quality & quantity of learning & reading materials are still the same, old & very used. I don’t see any thing new or improvement on learning equipments.

My girl started PN last yr, now in N1 half day. To pay S$ 1200 pm for N1 is ridiculous. I shudder of future increase as she progress. I’m pulling out end this yr in nov so to avoid the money-sucking concert too, better spend the hard earned money on family vacation in dec.

Also to add, the previous principal & all her beloved teachers in her class resigned end of last year! The spirit of the school is no longer the same as before! She no longer rave about her teachers nor look forward to it, so no love loss to move on to greener pasture.
