    • RE: Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

Thank you everyone for your kind advice, perspectives and time! I learn so much from you all. I really appreciate it. After reading the comments, I’m starting to give up the idea of Kong Hwa for Phase 2C and kids having same school. The safest bet seem to be Maris Stella in this year’s registration, and explore options for my younger daughter next time.

Our family is Catholic. For my daughter, perhaps I should consider some good Catholic schools so we can qualify under Phase 2B to be a bit "safer". Does distance matter in the balloting process for Phase 2B?

There are always 2 sides, to a coin.

If u give up your precious Phase 2A for Maris, if u get balloted out of Kong Hwa, u will cry & regret deeply.

      In life, DON'T be greedy.

The way u initially put it across -
People read already, thought at first that u don't even have any school, under Phase 2C. But after u tell people out that u already got a Maris Stella school secured, u are ...
Thank you for your advice. In the initial post, I did mentioned that we're Maris alumni but distance is 5km away. But I should have elaborated more.

Yeah, it's probably unwise to give up a place in Maris. Rather than being greedy, I'm just thinking ahead for my daughter next time as my kids are only 2 years apart. I worry about the future logistics arrangement of sending kids to two different schools and having to go through the whole pri 1 registration agony again in 2 years' time. Hence I'm considering Kong Hwa for Phase 2C and backup plans in case we got balloted out of Kong Hwa.

Tough decision. I suggest you put your son in Maris Stella first, and try to PV to Kong Hwa (which will require you to join the SHHK). That's assuming you will be registering your son NEXT YEAR in 2025. If not, that's too bad, because Kong Hwa will definitely require intense balloting for <1km in Phase 2C. In any case, if you managed to join SHHK and go for PV, you may get a chance to try for Phase 2B, and then transfer your son to be together with your daughter in P3.

      Good luck!
Thank you for your kind advice! I'll be registering my son this year. We're not of Hokkien ancestry so we can't join SHHK. The other way is to be grassroot leader and serve for 2 years for my daughter to have additional chance to get in Kong Hwa. Phase 2B for Kong Hwa also requires ballot with a 50% chance. 😢 What is the chance of being able to transfer my son from Maris Stella into Kong Hwa next time? Any chance if MP appeal will work?

      Are your kids Singaporeans?[/quote]
Yes both of them are Singaporean. My son can get into Maris Stella as husband is an ex-student. But the distance is not ideal (around 30 minutes door-to-door via public transport), and I still need to find a school for my daughter, who is 2 years younger, next time. We stay just next to Kong Hwa, so if they can both go Kong Hwa will be ideal.

Hi parents, I’m in a dilemma to choose between Maris Stella (Alumni, 5km away) or Kong Hwa (<1km, but need to ballot). My eldest is a boy followed by a girl who is 2 years younger. Ideally, I would like Kong Hwa so both of them can enter the same school, but I’m afraid of failing Phase 2C. What are your thoughts? What other good schools are there in Phase 2C(S) which may still be vacant and near Eunos area? Thank you!

    • RE: Kong Hwa

Hello! I'm staying in the new Bto behind Kong Hwa. We are probably only 50m-100m away. My husband and I are not hokkien so we can't join SHHK to be parents volunteer. Guess we will only be able to participate in phase 2C. Will MOE sort by distance to pick people staying within 1km from the school? Despite staying next to school, what are our chances in phase 2C?

I think I will really cry if my kid can't get in the school... 😢 I have a boy and a girl, really hope I can put them in a co-ed school for convenience.
