To add on to what @floppy mentioned,

- some schools do not offer CL 'B', thus students have to travel to another venue (only) once every week for lesson after school
- CL 'B' may seem simpler on paper but given the exam components' weightage, if the student is weak in conversing and listening in CL, he/she may still end up struggling (esp. since it's only once a week lesson)

Compo: 20% - to be typed out using computer, i.e. need to know the pronunciation of the words and phrases
Paper 2: 30% - cloze passages + mcq compre passages
Oral: 30% - passage reading + video discussion & conversation

From my group of returning Sg these few years, we have kids joining RI, NYGH, Dunman High and a few in NJC. I think when submitting the choices, take a look at which list of schools are given to you. It shows how well kids have done. And to me, the most important thing is to ask our own kids how they feel about the exam. They should know if they are able to ace the papers.

I think so far, the forummers here had advised to at least have one or 2 non IP schools in your list, just in case.

1.How is the exemption going? Is it possible for the student to attend MTL classes but the exam results will not be taken into account?

2. If the MTL exemption application is approved, this exemption is for the IP process? Or we can cancel the exemption when my kid is OK to take MTL?

My family relocated for 10 years. My youngest boy left sg when he was 3 yo. We returned to Sg for good this year.

My boy took Sec 1 Spers last year. He had never been to sg primary school, not even the immersion program. I didn’t think it is a good idea for him to take PSLE as there will be too much to overcome, science itself is already a whole set of differences in their answering technique. He took 3 months to prepare for Maths and we drop the modelling method. He uses algebra and it is really feasible. But he is strong in Maths to begin with. He did very well in SPERS and is doing fine in sec 1 now.

I feel the best time for overseas Sg kids to come back is when they just started their sec 1 or sec 2. Everyone starts on a new ground in sec school. We waited for my elder boy to finish his IB before we move back to Sg as coming back at sec 3 will be challenging.

What about letting your girl take Sec 1 SPERS and see how she fare? If you are not satisfied with it, she can take sec 2 SPERS the following year. I personally feel Sec 2 SPERS should be much easier as only sec 1 syllabus is covered.

I am merely sharing from what I see in my groups of overseas Sg. The past 6 years I have seen 13 kids who took SPERS. 4 went to neighborhood schools, 3 went to one of the top IP schools and the rest in IP schools.

As for chinese, we can drop Chinese and do CLB in secondary school. It is much easier than CL and they only need a pass.

My boy sat Sec 1 spers last dec. I was clueless what questions would their maths paper be like.
I am sharing a question that my boy had memorized because he wanted to double check if he got this all correct. Just hoping that it’d help a little.

My boy started sec 1. I have friends telling me chinese does not affect his results. He merely need to pass the subject as chinese is not calculated in their GPA at y4, and at y6, is also not needed to be admitted to uni. Is this true?

What about taking CL(B)? How is that going to affect his GPA?
