EDIT: I have another question. For JC's if English Literature is a compulsory and I did not take EL Lit in secondary school, what are my chances of coping with the subject. If this piece of information is needed, my English grade for the O's is a one.

Just finished my A levels and I took lit so I guess I am qualified enough to answer the second part of your question EL lit is not compulsory in secondary school for you to take in JC as far as I know, it might differ between schools though. However, the rigour and requirements for O Level and A level Lit is very different, so one who did well in O level may struggle in A levels but another who has never taken Lit in secondary school may do well. Although this kinda sounds like a general or standard answer, it depends on the individual really. A level lit requires in depth analysis of the literary piece given. The questions asked would be very general, for example, \"write a critical appreciation on the protrayal of love\", and you have to have your own opinions and thoughts (in your essay this would be like your topic sentence), support it with evidence in the text and literary analysis of your evidence. The H1 syllabus requires comparison of two poems, so your ability to pick up subtleties and nuances would have to be relatively strong, to give a more detailed analysis with regards to the differences/similarities between the poems.
That said, if you are able to handle it then do take it, because once you mastered the skill it is a subject that can be scored without much 'mugging'

Anyway, must we get a L1R5 of 10 or below in order to take 4 h2 subjects? Can i take 4 h2 subjects(including economics) with L1R5 of 11 and above. ANyway, when does Jc start? Is it next february? Plus, can you bring tablet or notebook to JC? And must we bring lots of books to jC? If that is not the case, can i use a sling bag?

I think that would have to depend on your school, but most likely they won't let you offer 4H2s at 11 points unless you show that you have the ability to manage, you would probably have to talk with the dean of your school or something when you enter. Notes will be printed by the school in JC, there will most likely not be any textbooks. I am not sure if you can bring a tablet/notebook, you would have to check again with the school, but most jc students would just take down notes on the printed set during lectures, since the information is already there and it helps for easy reference when studying.

Anyway do anyone have any idea how to prepare for General paper? Is there other ways other than reading newspaper on storybooks as i always fall asleep when reading them. Is it possible to learn english by watching english tv series?

Read newspapers, story books doesn't do much other than sharpening your grammatical skills. Same goes for tv series, at most it'll only improve the ease of speaking/constructing sentences in English. If you want to improve your ability in those areas, then you can do so but it doesn't help in terms of content knowledge. General paper requires knowledge wide range of topics so you have to keep abreast of news and current affairs. Source for notes compiled by the schools from your seniors in various JCs, such as essay outlines, model essays, notes on how to form logical arguments etc.

Hello, not a parent but an alumni of the school ^^ Just like to share my experience and give a general reply to some questions I saw here:

Regarding the results of 2011 GCE O levels, I'm not very clear of the exact statistics but I've heard from my juniors that we had a top scholar that year, in fact I believe the results are better than the ones for 2010 GCE O levels

Distance wise it's pretty near redhill mrt, 10 mins at a moderate pace is more than enough to reach the school, I've tried running and it takes around ~5 mins xD Usually students will meet with/bump into their friends at the station and walk to school together while chatting, it's a great bonding time.

Actually they do group the students according to their PSLE results but the disparity isn't that significant. Those that are in the C classes (2C1-2C3) will have higher scores, I'd say 246-250 onwards and those in G and S classes will be around 242-245~ Not to worry though there isn't much difference in the quality of teachers allocated and with the streaming in Secondary 3 it's a reshuffle again. Even with the streaming in Sec 3, there won't be any bias towards the triple science class, so yep
The teachers at Crescent are truly the best and will do their best to ensure that the students receive as much help as possible, during my years there consultation sessions with the teachers were a norm rest assured that adequate help is given. Of course, the student must also take the initiative and request for help when needed.

The PC will mostly be of use in the lower secondary years, when there are projects and computer studies etc. It's troublesome to carry around after a while, I guess it serves more as a personal computer for students to download notes and read announcements/emails on the portal than actually used for online research.
There are lots of opportunities for students to develop their character and leadership, (CCA leaders, Councillors, House Leaders, Peer Leaders) and especially if you are in Uniform Groups, as tough as the trainings are it's a wonderful opportunity to gain confidence and life skills such as communication within a team. Most often than not everyone will obtain a leadership post (during sec 3 when they step up to take over their seniors) in a uniform group.
Yes it is stressful, especially in upper secondary but it's good training and preparation for tertiary education. (And to be very honest the stress is nothing compared to the stress levels in JC xD)

My years in Crescent were the best years of my life and I've gained a lot there, be it academic or character/skills, as with my friends, we are all whining about wanting to go back to the days in Crescent, so I hope your daughters/future students will have a equally enjoyable time there
