I don't see how the videos made by Sun will in any way reach out to the secular world. We are in the world but don't have to be of the world. She doesn't have to conform to their ways to connect with them.

I couldn't agree with you more.

In replying to an accusation that he was mixing with the wrong crowd when he was dining with swindlers and sinners Jesus said: “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. ... For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Matthew 9:12-13)

There's hardly any need for a doctor to resemble the sick in order to heal the sick. If anything, he needs to be distinct from the sick.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, (Romans 12:2)

Christians are called to separate, not isolate, themselves from the secular world. In short, to be distinct.

I've helped women out of prostitution and I had no need to behave like a prostitute, be a prostitute or have sex with a prostitute. I just had to be there as myself in order to help them.

      I'm still myself. 😄

KH, by preaching the prosperity gospel, is actually not preaching Christianity but greed.
It was Mahatma Gandhi who said: \"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed\".

      How very true!

A person's greed is a bottomless pit. It’s pure lunacy to assume it can be satisfied. Although we can logically concede that this is true, emotionally it just doesn't quite find traction. People are emotional creatures first and logical creatures second.

      A far second.

This disconnect and innate gullibility is where conmen work their magic. Excite your emotions until it overwhelms your logical thinking. Tempt you away from reality by creating a fantasy world in your mind where everything you wished for is possible. Throw in the trump card by bringing God into the equation. After all, isn't God the one who can conquer the impossible?

And what if what you’ve hoped for doesn't materialize?

Oh, it's because you are sorely lacking in faith. Faith the missing link; the magic ingredient. You’ve got a faith deficit. Yes, YOU are the problem. How can you blame God? How dare you blame God, right?

Woo-hoo, these conmen have all their bases covered.

So their deluded victims keep digging into their pockets, throwing in their hard-earned money hoping to hit gold. The motherlode.

It’s like a dog chasing its tail. Plenty of exertion. But no satisfaction. Yet the chase goes on. And on. And on.

If only they would dig deep into the Bible, they would have gotten the answer. A far different answer. A rational answer that’s in tune with reality.

The Bible’s answer to happiness from material possessions is CONTENTMENT.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. (1 Timothy 6:6-7)

Contentment is the surest containment for greed. Contentment is the art of deriving maximum happiness from what you already have. And the beautiful thing is that it’s an attainable goal.

Remember the school days when kicking a bottle cap in the school yard with your pals was so much fun? The bottle cap was eh, free, right? What’s stopping you from resurrecting that same degree of joy with another bottle cap?
      tutormum:
There is only one gospel and that is Christ came to save the lost by dying on the cross. Galatians 1 v 6 \"I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.\"
The gospel here is the good news about Jesus dying on the cross for the sins of men, thereby saving from hell fire those who believe in his sacrifice. The prosperity gospel is a modern deviant teaching that claims that God will bless you with material wealth when you believe in him.

The latter does not reject nor deny the former. They are not mutually exclusive. A person can believe in both. I have no idea if Kong Hee falls under this category.
      tutormum:
How do we tell a true Christian from a fraud? By the fruits that he bears.
That’s what Jesus said about identifying the false prophets: “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? (Matthew 7:15-16)

Tutormum, it sure would help if you could paragraph your text. I was breathless after reading because I almost drowned in the sea of words. 😂

If the gang of 8 never embezzle any $, there is nothing to fear. (\"guang ming zheng da, guang ming lei ruo\").
However if they ever did, then their families will be scared. God above is witnessing the entire court case proceeding on earth. \"Ren zai zuo, Tian zai kan\".

      refer Proverbs 19 verse 5
\"If you tell lies in court, you will be punished - there will be no escape.\"
      zakashi:
Surely he knows Proverbs 19 verse 5. Hope he fear God.
      Not necessarily.

Many of these prosperity-gospel preachers know very little of the Bible. All they know are a few pet verses that they twist and distort to fleece the people.

People tend to erroneously equate the size of a congregation with having substance. If that is indeed the case, a hot air balloon should be more precious than a diamond. 😂

Actually, looking at the success rate of CAD cases in the past, looking at the evident, new info released by the press and so on, I really feel that the famous 5 are going to be up for a big challenge. maybe only a miracle can change the game now, it seems.

There will be PTC, maybe CCMS, the paper inquiry, trials and sentencing (if any).. a long process to come.. hope that people are not like what \"no Kidding\" has said \" When a person is deceived, their reasoning faculties refuse to entertain alternative views to the contrary. It's like a person who closes his eyes tightly and swears that light does not exist. When they are with like-minded people, each will affirm the other in their deception, urging each other not to open their eyes. ....\" that would be a sad case of smart people blinded for wrong reasons... Haiz...

PS: still cannot help but to think of what their family members have to go thru now...Haiz haiz... ...
Not all charges may stick. But getting clobbered with the remainder is already bad enough.

I've got a friend who went to prison for molesting a kid. He said the place was hell.

If both parents go to jail, the innocent kid/s gonna get hit real bad too. They get ostracized in school. And kids can be very heartless in their teasing. Of course, they are too young to know the kind of deep hurt they are causing the other. They just get the sense of achievement causing the other kid to cry. :yikes:

      SilentHermit:
      Geesss.... Thats even worse..

my DD is 5, DS x 2 are 3+. I discipline them with cane (not sugar cane) if have to, although i do teklong a bit when it comes to DD. I believe that boys must grow up strong, challenged, whacked into shape and when it comes the time they have to make big decision, do not kalang kabo..
Disciplining with the cane will not injure them unless you lose your cool and wield it like a samurai sword.

One of my former bosses shared how he disciplines his kids. He'll sit them down and tell them what they did wrong. Then he'll tell them he'll have to discipline them. Then he'll cane them on the buttocks. After that he'll hug them and tell them that Papa loves them that's why Papa disciplines them.

The positive affirmation of love gives a closure to the entire event. The purpose of discipline is to reform. Not to deform.
      SilentHermit:
Now we go to park, boys run and fall, I say, get up! dont cry!.. things move on.. I am more conservative, do not believe in dual income, believe that i married my wife so that she can also have some comfort, believe that she must be home to take care of things (the dogs, the kids, the maid), cannot stand (if she work) even a boss to scold her, that's Hermit, perhaps too egoistic (but I don't care).
If you can afford it, letting your wife stay as a homemaker is actually a wise choice. That way she can create a close bond with the kids, impart values and provide emotional stability.

I've a friend whose mom left her job for 7 years when she was born just to take care of her. She is easily the most emotionally-stable lady that I've ever come across.

      Read this: http://www.yummybubby.com/2009/10/the-first-seven-years-of-a-childs-life/

You and your wife will reap handsome dividends in the future from your investment in your kids, I'm sure. :rahrah:

Having her out in the working world may give you an extra paycheck to get more fancy stuff for the family. But what your kids need are not presents but your presence. That's one priceless special edition gift that only you both can provide. 😄
      SilentHermit:
My boys must be strong, perhaps stronger than me.
There are 2 ways to handle a 2 km run with ease. One obvious way is to avoid running altogether. The other is to train to run 20km. When it's time to tackle the 2 km, it's just nothing but a warm-up.

When life demands a 2km run, train for the 20km marathon. Yes, train your sons to be strong.

But don't leave your daughter out. She has to be strong too to fend of the nonsense that she'll face from the guys. In one sense, the challenges that she'll face from this world is no less tough. They're just different.

I actually felt sorry for his parents. They probably thought they have a bright son whose future is secured with a scholarship. However they ended up having to sell off their HDB to pay off his scholarship breakage and.... he is doing it again. He needs to see a doctor. But on the other hand, his future also look bleaked and he is still young...
A severe case here. I wonder if it's a mental problem.

What about another well known mega church in Singapore besides CHC? Any issue?

It's important for us to realise that just because there are a few rotten apples out there does not mean that there aren't any good oranges around.

There are far more pastors and Christians living faithfully and contributing quietly away from the limelight.

Here is something I have read ... in fact City Harvest and Kong Hee seems to have relatively strong ties with a tele-evangelist called Benny Hinn. Apparently Benny Hinn was invited to City Harvest to preach in 2008.

For those who don't know who Benny Hinn is, he is in fact one of the greatest con artist masquerading as a pastor. He even owns a private jet and claims he can heal all sicknesses using 'faith healing' which is never proven.

Here is an excerpt of Benny Hinn and what his church does.

      ‘God bless your credit card’
Johannesburg - God’s blessing would last only two minutes and it would create 500 churchgoing millionaires or even billionaires - all they had to do was use their credit cards to pay $1 000 in offerings to televangelist Benny Hinn.

Pastor Tommie Ferreira of the AGS Church in Johannesburg was so upset about the “blessing” that, after a week, he wanted to know who of the donors actually had become millionaires.

Ferreira told Rapport he did not mean to bring about Hinn’s downfall.

He merely wanted to know if any of the hundreds of churchgoers who donated amounts of up to $1 000 (about R7 500) to Hinn’s Miracle Crusade last week Saturday had now become millionaires.

About 18 000 people streamed to the Coca-Cola Dome in Randburg to hear Hinn’s message of healing and miracles.

Ferreira, who is a keen choir singer, voluntarily sang in the Miracle Crusade’s choir. He said one of Hinn’s American guest speakers, Pastor Todd Koontz, spoke about financial burdens and said 500 audience members would receive “an exceptional blessing”.

“He said the service would yield millionaires and billionaires within 24 hours.

“Everyone had to donate $1 000 because an exceptional blessing rested on $1 000.”

Koontz apparently really had the congregation scrambling when he said, “This blessing will be poured out for only two minutes.”

Ferreira said: “People stormed to the front - poor people, rich people, people from all sections of our society.”

Hinn’s co-pastors apparently had credit-card machines ready with which they could take donations.

“He (Koontz) said God would bless the people’s credit cards and they would be able to rule over South Africa with their money. Eventually there were no fewer than 1 000 people who made such donations.”

According to Ferreira’s calculations, Hinn must have collected millions of rands with these donations - perhaps more than R7m if each of the 1 000 church-goers donated $1 000 in the hope of becoming millionaires.

Furthermore, after Koontz’s collection of the $1 000 donations, Hinn collected general donations.

Dr Sarel Smit of the AGS church Lofstad in Hursthill, Johannesburg, who supported Ferreira as he spoke to Rapport, was equally worried about the method by which Hinn collected donations.

“Especially at a time like this when there is dire need, people run the risk of losing their faith in the Lord in this way. God will provide for your needs, but not your greed.”

Rapport spoke to an employee in Hinn’s South African office in Durban who said on Friday morning that they were still busy collecting money. \"

This guy has been exposed as a fraud and the amazing thing is he can still be so successful sucking money from unsuspecting, helpless people.

For people who are interested to know about him, you can check out this link and all evidences against Benny Hinn.

      http://www.blog.joelx.com/pastor-benny-hinn-fraud-scam-divorce/4863/

I really hope people can do their own research about their church leaders and their teachings before blindly following and handing over hard earned money that can be put to greater use.

And for CHC members, is it not strange that your church associates with someone like that? Does it not reflect on the views of your church leaders?

      my two cents,
      kc
When a person is deceived, their reasoning faculties refuse to entertain alternative views to the contrary. It's like a person who closes his eyes tightly and swears that light does not exist. When they are with like-minded people, each will affirm the other in their deception, urging each other not to open their eyes.

What's happening in CHC is probably \"groupthink\" on a colossal scale.

      \"When Consensus Replaces Critical Thinking
Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon in which the group members form individual opinions that match the group consensus rather than critically evaluating information.
Groupthink seems to occur most often when a respected or persuasive leader is present, inspiring members to agree with his or her opinion. It also is a powerful force when it validates the preconceived opinions of the individual members. It can be spot on and right. It also can be dreadfully wrong.\"

      Read the entire article: \"http://www.westerncity.com/Western-City/March-2012/The-Power-of-Groupthink-The-New-Denial/.\"
