    • RE: Qualifying for HMT from results slip

The S1 slip should indicate if he is eligible for HMT. DS is 236+1, not eligible for HMT. However, he should still be able to go for a SAP school if I am not wrong.

237 is very safe for Maris, as the COP is around 231-232.

    • RE: sequencing the 6 choices

I understand that each student is ranked, and with decimals, thus it is almost very unlikely that2 students having same t-score.

But I still have 1 more question. DS has 1 bonus point for HMT, thus his t-score is 236+1. I am putting Chung Cheng Main as first choice. In terms of ranking, will he be ranked at 237, or 236?

    • sequencing the 6 choices

May i know if the sequence of choices in the s1form matters if 2 students meet the cop for the same school? If both score 235, and the cop for the school is 235, student a put as 1st choice, student b as 3rd, does student a has an advantage?

If this is a sap school, if one is 235 and the other is 234+1, does it matter?

    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

      rosicky:
May I seek the advice from parents here. Guess I am facing the same old issue, need to buy piano for DS and DD, but parents know next to nothing about pianos. :? But after much googling, very much narrow down to 3 choices:

      1) Used Yamaha U1 (20+ years) - Cost ard 3-4k.

      2) Cristofori CU-123 EP - Cost ard 3.8k

      3) Hailun HL-125 - Have not checked, but should be about 4k?

Not really comfy with the Yamaha as we are noobs, and thus unable to tell the condition. Between the cristofori and hailun, which is better?

      Thanks!
Just to share that I have bought a Hailun after much consideration, but the H-5 model, which cost 1k more then the HL-125. Both are attractively priced at 4.6k and 3.6k respectively.

As I dun play music, I can only rely on my ears as the sales person demo to me. We went to the showroom, and \"listened\" to the petrof, hailun and some used Yamaha, Kawai and Bohemia.

      1. Sound. The Hailun is at least on par with Yamaha and Kawai based on our non musical ears. But the Petrof and Bohemia somehow sounds better, but expensive. šŸ˜“ Just like european cars...

      2. Value. The Hailun H-5 is like 50% price of a new U1 or a entry Petrof. Same price as a 20+ year old U1/U3.

      3. Quality. The built quality, and the material used looks good. But again, I am not a expert, so probably only time will tell.

      4. Warranty. The Hailun comes with a 10 year full parts+labour warranty, and a 5 years trade-in scheme at 50% of the sale price.

It has been a stressful experience buying our first piano, going thru many shops and warehouses, seeking advice from teachers and friends. But we end up buying something that they have not heard of.... šŸ™

    • RE: St Gabriel's Primary

      Hendy75:
recently just received a post from st gabriel primary stating my boy sport houses, and class name.1 loyalty.just want to know at the stage of P1 is there something we call best-worse class eg 1A is good,1B better,1c BEST kind of,the school search all the good student and put them at better class? And 1 more things is anyone with an idea how the P1 students are being selected to make up 30 in a class?next week is orientation date.Muat have lots of parents, grandparents there to see whats is like for orientation.

For P1, there is no best or worse. In general, St Gab alternate between \"Loyalty\" and \"Self Decipline\" as the best and worse class. The other classes like Sincerity, Respect, Orderliness etc comes in between.

P1 - No Classification, think it's really random.
P2 - Usually same \"gang\" as P1, but the name might change. Thus Loy becomes Sel and vice versa.
      P3 - 3 Sel is Lead Class
      P4 - 4 Loy is Lead Class
      P5 - 5 Sel is Lead Class
      P6 - 6 Loy is Lead Class

      Hope this helps.

      SuperMario:
      Hi parents,

seeking feedback on St Gab's school, teachers, environment, academic performance. thinking of registering son there this year but hesitant as I have not heard much abt St Gab's esp in the academic space.

      Is the school single session?

Has the transport operator service improved? i live in amk
My son is in SGPS P5. St Gab is not famous for academic, so not surprising u have not heard anything. But quite stress free, no much pressure on students.

Yes, it is single session, and the assembly is later then most schools, ard 740. Transport is terrible, gave up, now my son take public transport.

    • RE: Xinmin Primary

i notice that xinmin needs balloting with 1km for 2010? I am registering for my DS2 this year, considering XinMin as we qualify for phase 2b as alumni. I know that xinmin secondary is considered one of the top neighbourhood school, but i have not heard much about the primary school plus it is not affliliated.

Has the pass year PSLE results for xinmin good? Anyone can advice? I am pondering to shift my house to be nearer to Maris Stella, but will stay put if Xin Min is as good. Comments?
