• RE: Fernvale Primary

Just my final thoughts…seeing the keen competition for vacancies in fernvale area. Paying it forward here …I’ve got sound advice from a parent here when I was registering my child for P1 last year…while we like many other parents too shortlisted SKGP…we eventually chose fernvale primary…a decision we are glad we made…our child enjoys school and had settled it real well. He has close friends, learnt to feedback to us what happened in school and student care. Teachers are responsive. Students there are well behave from my observation. He is also adapting very well to the curriculum. What more can we ask for?

I understand from other threads that, there seems to be some bad reviews on fernvale primary. I have heard some of these reviews as well prior to registration. In all fairness, such incidents are not just isolated to fernvale primary. It happened in many other schools as well. On its lesser appeal to SKGP (I’m certain SKGP definitely has its merits as well) my humble views are it’s right down to the demographics and the school’s more central location within the fernvale area. While everyone has their own definition of what a good school entails, and check boxes on going about their selection, I urged parents to stop putting down a school because of whatever rumours or incidents they hear about. There are bound to have students who are less behaved, and they usually make up the minority. The majority are our little ones enjoying their primary school phase.

Parents here being less vocal or active in this thread similarly doesn’t mean fernvale primary is lesser in appeal or overwhelmed with problematic students. At the end of the day, whether your child does well in school all boils down to us and the schools’ effort, complementing one another.

Pardon my long post, I hope I put this to rest and help parents make a more informed decision in selecting the primary school for their beloved child. Choose a school based on your own unique set of criteria and not seemingly by following what the crowd says. With that, I wish all parents a successful one in phase 2CS.

      Cheers

Thank you mummy S0undwave for yr feedback.

May I also know what enrichments lesson they provided?
You are welcome. Maths and English so far. Worksheets are given and scored. They are later returned to parents to see the progess.

FVPS has a FB page set up since the start of the year. You can also see the activities there. :imcool:

My child is in P1 fernvale primary. Also enrolled in the school based proteach student care. Been a smooth journey for us so far and of cos for him 🙂 he enjoys school though at times whine, wanting to stay at home to play, rather than student care. Thank the man upstairs that he had bond well with friends and teachers.

The school based student care helps in preparing them for the weekly spelling and mini tests and also provides enrichment payable at $60 for half a year (if I recall right) Proteach offers a mobile app that greatly enhance communications with parents, from early pick up to signing of forms. Teachers there are also very prompt in their response.

      Hope this offers some insights.

Chances are, most people won't know. For example some people who are 1-2km away fighting for that 1 place remaining 1hr before closing might find themselves pipped by someone who is 1km away registering at the last minute. They would not have any time to withdraw then.

Yes this is what happened to Alexandra primary, I believe at least 50 sets of parents who were not able to withdraw in time. Two mothers were scrambling to withdraw at 4.20pm. I hope they managed to get to their back up school in time.
Wow...this really happened...
If its a last min surge in applications from parents staying within 1 km...can't really blame the school..how to call everyone? . but really ?..Last min surge of 50?

The risk people take...then again no risk no vain perhaps

A little noob question...so there could be cases, where parents don't even get to ballot in phase 2C, for example...300 applicants for 150 vacancies, and say 50% are in the 1-2km range? Wouldn't the school have advised parents not to try and to withdraw before phase 2C ends?

Yes. Not all schools practice that courtesy call for parents to pull out if they have no chance. And not all parents would care to withdraw even when informed by the school. So there could be a small pool of people in there right now who will have no chance to even ballot.

We have updated the final Phase 2C stats http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/event/2015-p1-registration-phase-2c. In general, the competition in Phase 2C this year is one of the lowest we have seen. No school is over 300% oversubscribed.

Let's hope MOE can come out with the balloting list soon so to reduce the stress for parents wondering about the fate of their applications. Hang tight!

Seng Kang Green going to be hot hot! Principal and Deputy from Pasir Ris and Mee Toh respectively and the curriculum very good. I like that school too but it is more than 2km for me so not going to waste my 2C chance. I think SKGPS will shine in years to come. :rahrah:

ya its oversubscribed but how bout inside 1km. should i go for it? :? :?
would like to know the full details b4 doing a bet. lol
Checked this morning....they have no breakdown..but they shared all SC within 1 km..

Seeking Views pls. Will be registering later this year, and deciding on either of the following 2 options.

Option 1 - phase 2A. Back to former primary school (in AMK)

Pros - no uncertainty, strong in arts, lesser students 180 vs 240, higher chance of securing school based student care vacancy. Principal formerly VP from reputable school. Historical statistics show Balloting not required in all phases.

Cons - 8-10 mins drive, school starts at 7.20am

Option 2 - phase 2C. Relatively new school (Sengkang)

Pros - walking distance <1km, new facilities, principal formerly from a reputable school, school starts later at 7.45am

Cons - balloting likely to occur for SC within 1km, lower chance of securing school based student care vacancy

Am contemplating to try phase 2c and if fails to try option 1 under phase 2cs since there was no balloting ever. Or should we just enrol under phase 2A?

      Thanks all in advance

It is a good tactical decision 🙂 Try for Phase 2C first. If cannot, then go to your backup school in 2CS, since you are sure it will have enough remaining places for you.

Thanks admin. Appreciate your reply. Based on the balloting history, my old primary school, Jing Shan shouldn't have much of an issue in securing a place..less it suddenly changes this year..this was exactly what happen last year with Sengkang green primary ( our option 2) when balloting occurs last year, which was perhaps pretty much out of the norm..guess the demographics of the area, played a big part...looking at the Sengkang schools balloting history, wonder if this year round...demand for this school will waned off, without the need for ballot......we are hoping to secure a place at the earliest opportunity...
