RE: Let's Talk about National Service
Hi, my son’s enlistment is on 11 Aug and we reside in the US so I am not very updated on NS issues. We are planning for him to return in June or early July to fulfill his IPPT , taking into consideration he may need to quarantine for 14 days before IPPT. If he passes his IPPT, does it mean that his new enlistment date will be about eight weeks later from 11Aug? Someone told me it may or may not be postponed 8 weeks but he will be enlisted directly into the 9-week BMT and enjoy 2-month reduction in full-time NS duration (from 24 month to 22 month). Anyone knows?

Hi don't have too.. just apply levy waiver, do the renewal, make sure the insurance is done up before you let her go..i paid $150 last time, w/o insurance yet
Thanks for your reply. Do you mean to say $150 is for MOM online renewal? -
RE: Renewal of Indonesian Maid Work Permit
Does it costs just S$30 to renew it online? Besides renewing with her insurance / bond , what other costs involved? I am thinking of doing it online myself. My agent quoted me $180 ( said $120 for updates which he didn’t specify what they are and $60 for "running-around". )
I intend to let helper visit family in Mar and her passport valid till 2017. besides applying for levy waiver, do I need to take note of any other items? There’s no need to apply for exit permit etc?
Thanks ! -
RE: St. Joseph's Institution
Hope someone can help me with questions regarding CCA.
For certain CCAs, there are several time slots/ days given e.g Scouts , badminton , guitar, track and field. Does it mean that the child enrolled in any of these CCA has to attend all the different days? DS has to attend Legion of Mary on one of the weekdays and I am just afraid that he’ll end up with a CCA that is over demanding.
He is interested in badminton as that was his CCA in primary school. He is not in the school team though. Is it true that it is difficult to get into a sports CCA and most of them end up in uniformed gps? -

Thanks a lot for the replies. But how about Temasek Junior College and ACS(I) -'O' level compared with SJI.
Temasek is IP so your second son may have a problem with his score. If you want them to be in the same school, this can pose a problem as the COP is unknown (251). IP entry should not be lower than 250. The same applies to ACS (I) O level programme (249). What do you do if one is accepted and not the other. Maybe appeal?
COP for SJI Non affiliatuion should be around 245. With their scores it should not be a problem. -

Yes SJI and Victoria are good choices. SJI is a little far in Bishan holding site, but if your kids take the circile line from Bishan station, it takes 12 mins to Paya Lebar interchange and then to Tampines. The walk from SJI to Bishan Circle Line station is only 5 mins. SJI is independent school so the fees are higher though.Veej:
My first son score is 251 with TL and merit in HMT and second son score is 247 with TL only. We stay in Tampines. I need your help for the good school. Please advise,so confused in selection. I prefer the good school but distance ok, can travel. I need your opinion. Thanks in advance.
U can consider SJI or Victoria for the boys ?
In the East you can also consider Tanjong Katong Sec (234-254) or Anglican High (242-262). -

Hi I would like to know if I stand a chance to get into St nicholas IP. I got 255. I heard that there are a lot of 250+ Instead of like 280 so there are probably a lot of people trying to get into st nicholas. Thank you.

I think you stand a pretty good chance if that's your dream school, no harm placing it as your first choice. If you don't mind not getting into IP, then place St Nicholcas O level track as 2nd choice (253). If IP is really what you want, consider SCGS IP as well but bear in mind that SCGS fees are different as it is an Independent sch. -

Go to the invidual schools listing and website to understand more abt what each school has to offer. It is important that your child will enjoy the environment he's going to spend the next 4yrs. I will even take the time to drive to the school if its not too much trouble just to have a feel.
