......My DD has got an offer from VJC & EJC. Happy & confused... Sometimes, it's too difficult to make a decision. Can someone please please share some of your thoughts.
wow !
You know the outcome of your ...daughter... DSA offer results, so fast !
I've a JC1 kid, even though he made his own decisions, these were some aspects I had researched... to start off...
(1) Is there any subject or subject combination which your dd prefers (the individual colleges have published some related info on their websites)?
(2) How are the colleges' promotional criteria or JC2 subject criteria (for instance, would the student be made to drop a subject if certain grades are not met at the end of JC1, which I'd use to gauge how supportive the college is towards students who are not performing that well, how about qualifying for H3 subjects)?
Congratulations once again!
Thanks. Yes! I've asked my DD to make her own decision. Analyse pros & cons(esp. distance & culture)Regarding academic rigour both are in the same boat. Will look into the two points, which you've shared. Thank you once again :salute: -

Thank you! But we are facing a huge dilemma on which school to choose. We are weighing the pros and cons but we are still indecisive on which school to choose.

From the MOE website: \"Applicants are posted to a course based on merit according to their net aggregate scores (taking into account the various bonus points for which applicants are eligible for). Applicants with better net aggregate scores will be considered for admission first, subject to the availability of vacancies in the selected course. If there are no vacancies, the applicants will be considered for their next choice course.Singkiasu:
Wondering how the system works. My girl gotten seat in DHS which is her 4th choice. Her o results 8 points (12-4). Her third choice is acjc and the cop is 8. Maybe wants to take in more students that took HCL? :?
In the end, what comes to the table is the 'raw score'
In spite of working hard in getting all bonus points, grades still rule the world

In situations where there are two or more applicants with the same net aggregate score vying for the last place in a course, they will be posted based on their citizenship status in the order of Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and then International Students. If there is still a tie, for example between two Singapore Citizens with the same net aggregate score, the one with the better gross aggregate score will be posted to the course first. If there is still a tie between the two citizens with the same gross aggregate scores, posting to the course will be determined by a computerised ballot where each candidate is given an equal opportunity.\"
So bonus points still help up to a point, citizenship is considered. Bonus points are only disregarded when there is a need for a tie-breaker, and in the last resort, there will be a ballot. I guess if the student does meet the COP, it may be worth appealing, especially if there are other strong considerations (CCA etc) which are not one of the factors considered in JAE.
Yes! I agree. Bonus points do help! Absolutely no doubt about it.
But when we a have situation of one seat & two or more competing for it grades pulls us up!
Thanks for the response. Have a good Day! -

RE: Engineering Subjects
Thank you for the prompt reply

My DD's school doesn't offer combined physics.
So, If she didn't get Physics, she cannot take up Engineering courses at the tertiary level ;(
hmm... need go by the wind! -
RE: Engineering Subjects
I am not sure whether this topic or question is posted elsewhere in the forum(s), If it is repeated, pls. excuse & If not, I am sincerely looking forward to an answer.
My DD just completed her Sec 2 Year-end exams. Unfortunately, she did quite badly for science & math. Today at the PTM session, we came to know that - NO ( pure) Physics in O level means NO physics at the JC level & eventually, doors for taking up engineering courses at Uni ( esp. in Singapore Universities) is closed. Is it so?
My DD prefers physics to Bio. Not sure whether she can get her choice of subjects next year ;(
Can someone pls. clarify my doubt. :? -
RE: All About Part-Time Maids
Thank you for the response
Okay in that case, I don't mind any helpers but they should be sincere.
