• RE: Q&A - P5 Math

Hi, I need help on this question :

Mary had some biscuits. If she gave each friend 1 biscuit, she would have 8 biscuits extra. If she gave each friend 5 biscuits, she would need 48 more biscuits. How many friends were there?

Thanks.

Hi,

I was confused by the Question.
Oliver has $80 and Panny has $60 in each of their bank account. Everyday, Oliver deposits $6 while Panny deposits $10.
(1) How long will it Take Oliver and Panny to have the same amount of money in each of their bank account?
(20 How many days in all will Panny need to save if she wants to have $120 more in her bank account than in Oliver's bank account/
Kindly explain me how to solve it?

The average score of all children in a class for a Math Test is 83 marks. The average score of all the 10 girls in the class is 90 marks. The average score of the boys is 78 marks.
A) how many boys are there in the class?
B) find the difference in total scores between the boys and girls.

TIA

Hi, I need help on the above question urgently.
Thanks.

A)
90 - 83 = 7
7 x 10 = 70
83 - 78 = 5
70/5 = 14

Alternatively,

10 x 90 = 900
Let the number of boys be a.
(900 + 78a)/(10 + a) = 83
900 + 78a = 830 + 83a
5a -> 70
a -> 14

Ans : 14 boys.

B)
14 x 78 = 1092
1092 - 900 = 192

Ans : 192 marks.
Thank you so much !!!

Kit and May each have some money. If Kit spends $80, the ratio of the amount of money Kit has to the amount that May has will become 4:7. If May spends $80, the ratio will become 6:5. How much money do the girls have altogether?

Thank you!!

Hope someone with a simpler solution.. Mine is abit too tedious.
http://i60.tinypic.com/68zs61.jpg\"> The figure below, not drawn to scale, is made up of a square and a rectangle. ¼ of the square and 2/11 of the rectangle is shaded. The area of the rectangle is 54 cm2 larger than the square.

(A)\tFind the area of the figure.

Suggested answer:

Assuming:
Area of square = 4 units
Area of rectangle = 11 parts

1 unit = 2 parts
So area of square = 4 units or 8 parts

If area of rectangle - area of square = 54 cm2,
11 parts - 8 parts = 54 cm2
3 parts = 54 cm2
1 part = 18 cm2

Area of figure will be:
11 parts + 8 parts - 2 parts (overlapping area)
= 17 parts

17 x 18cm2 = 306 cm2.

Sorry, may I know why have to minus 2 parts? Not minus 3 parts (54cm2)?

Any other easier method?

Thank you.
Can someone help me on this question?

so the item (ruler) has a condition. e.g 1 ruler is to 2 erasers always be a short bar.

Hi, need help on these questions:

1. A box contained red, blue and green pebbles. There were 18 more red pebbles than green pebbles and there are 15 more blue pebbles than green pebbles. Given that the box contained 120 pebbles altogether, how many red pebbles were there in the box?

2. During an English test, Ramon scored 14 marks more than Kenny and 8 marks more than Ellie. Given that Ramon and Kenny scored 73 marks more than Ellie, what was Ramon’s score for the test.

TIA
