Certainly not a fantasy. It is a simple scholarly practice that is used when we need to make unbiased conparisons. In Economics , they use the term ceteris paribus for the same purpose

I read somewhere “all the Teachers come from the same NIE”, reminds me of another famous quote “all schools are good schools”, but I always see somehow sons and daughters of famous people end up in a few schools only, and every year only a few schools are mentioned again and again when president scholars are announced yearly

Of course. These schools have lower COPs hence take in students with higher academic caliber and can naturally perform better in examinations.

Sorry but generally, prospective employers do not give much thought on which secondary school you're from. Coming from branded school has very very little to no weight in prospective employers eyes unless it's a branded university like Oxbridge. They are looking for your A level and/or the class of honours in university. That's all. If you're from RJC/MGS/SCGS/SNGC with a third class honours and someone from Yishun JC with first class, the unfortunate thing is the person from YJC is more hirable to prospective employers.

Well, we are not talking about comparing 3rd class honours with 1st class honours, right ? All thing being equal, would a HR hire a RGS girl or a Cedar girl ?

And dont forget the power of networking and past alumni. It is no secret why so many RI students got into medicine ?

My eldest is on EJC and frankly the results are probably on par with AJC (at least this is what my youngest told me during their results day). At the end of the day, it's up to your child to do their best. Naturally schools with lower COP take in better students hence have better results. All the teachers come from the same NIE, receive the same funding from MOE and have similar teaching experience for the students. It up to the student to take advantage of the resources given by the school.

Frankly, why would you only listen to your eldest instead of looking at the actual A level performance results ? :slapshead: If I remeber correctly, EJC had high average rank point of 82.X which is on par with the top 5 jcs. If all things are equal, I will see their CCA performance, non-academic achievements and how they performed in their interview? This is first time I hear someone claim that the secondary school they are from plays a significant part in whether someone gets a job.

And this is also the first time I hear medicine admissions is also attributed to connections with their peers from RI. As I mentioned previously, these schools admit students who are academically inclined and can ace in exams. As simple as that.

Btw, EJC is not an average JC. its first year A level results were already on par with the higher ranked JCs. And that is an incredible feat considering the teething problems it had starting up as a new IP JC. It can only get better with the new beautiful campus in Bishan park that will be in operation coming jan2020
