hi, can i check if anyone of you has experience in successful DSA through dance? my gal has been learning ballet since 3 and she is a member of the chinese dance CCA in her primary school.

currently we are thinking of trying SOTA / SCGS or St Margarets. any comments? she is not particularly strong academically though. thanks

think this is a perennial dilemma to choose between HCI vs RI. My son's score is 267+3. think he prefers HCI, mainly cos his dad is an alumnus. but personally i prefer RI due to its proximity to our home and the later starting time in the morning (745 instead of 720 of HCI , which is a good half an hour more sleep everyday). i am also impressed by RI e open house last sat, whereby the students are mixed up in different classes be it DSA or GEP kids. whereas in HCI, i think the GEP will remain in GEP classes - correct me if i am wrong.
and this morning, we did our trial to HCI by using public transport. its abt 30-40 min from our place.

well we still havent' decided which one to put as first option. open for any suggestions and comments. Eventually I think I will let the boy decide for himself. 😄

I attended the RI e open house as well and was similarly impressed . Was hoping the HCI would have an e open house but looks like they decided not to .

Would like to know if this is correct - in HCI , the GEP and DSA kids are grouped in the ispark consortium ? And is the teaching different from the rest of the consortiums?

from what i understand only the GEP students in primary will go on to HCI internal GEP. the DSA-academic kids will go on the respective programs they DSA-ed in (eg. bilingualism will go to the bilingual culture program). maybe if there is a HCI parent here, could enlighten us.

an interesting point raised when i was discussing with my hubby about paying for some \"professional\" to do the personal statement and run thru the interview. are you for it?
the logic is.. oredi spent thousands on lessons / training, then a few hundred is immaterial.

Personal statement, don't bother since it is not needed in the online application. And I doubt the interviewers will wanna hear a prepared speech.

Interview? I think it depends on what domain your child is applying for. If it is sports then I feel it is totally not necessary, coz the talent far outweighs the interview skills. In fact most of the time, the school already has an idea who they want to award the CO, so the interview is just a formality.

However, if it is something more intangible, eg. innovation, leadership, then the child needs to speak very well to present past projects and experience, otherwise will \"lose out\" to those who are very strong in presentation skills.

thinking of applying DSA music to RI which do require a personal statement of 500 words + teacher's recommendations + pdf of certs, although based on the posts here it's like extremely difficult to get in. and also hesitant cos of the commitment to take up MEP as well as joining a music CCA. so we are actually still pondering over it.

You just have to write what is given in the award
what if there are a few to put under the same activity?
let's say under music, there could be a few certs / competitions. so should I include as one activity or separate for each item?
