      ImMeeMee:

CO - confirmed offer. WL - waiting list

I am sure the other parents can fill in the details on the implications behind these terms

      Thank ImMeeMee. :thankyou:

I'm not even sure if I shld get my DS apply DSA. Sounds like it's real far fetch.

He's got only a silver for Mathlympic & Bronze for NMOS. Tho he participated and won Gold for Destination Imagination & qualified for Odyssey of the Mind. His scores for Eng, Math & Science >95 but MT only >85. Tried to get him active in sports, but he's only keen in recreational swimming, chess, soccer & tennis. Nothing at school or competition level. He did earn bronze for swimming test though.

Shld I just focus him on academic & PSLE route? Any parent can adv? :scratchhead:

Actually to get >95 for Eng, Math and Science is worth trying for DSA. Schools like ACS have programs like Odyssey of the Mind at Secondary level. It is not easy to be qualified for these kinds of creative based programs and not many students can claim a Gold for Destination Imagination. I feel your DS has a strong case for DSA. He must be impressive during the interview though and do well for GAT.

Here are a couple of coaches that I heard of that are really good :
If you are interested in GAT/HAST coaching, you can visit http://dsacoach.weebly.com/
If you are interested in DSA Interview coaching, you can visit http://www.dsainterview.com/

      Hope this helps !

Hi, may I know for gep students, do they stand good chance of getting CO from RI or HCI if they do not have any competition awards? As my DS is not keen in competitions and he is average in gep, I am deciding whether to get him interested in MO and or to focus on PSLE?

      Thanks in advance!
As far as I know, even those who are very average in GEP and do not have outstanding CCA accolades are sought after by schools like RI and HCI. The interview is very important during the DSA process because in a previous year, a well-informed friend mentioned that those that were not selected were those that were very quiet and were probably not able to speak well and intelligently during the interview and the more vocal ones whose grades were not as good were selected instead.

Therefore I think for GEPpers, they need to nail the interview and as long as they get above 80% for their GEP subjects, they should be very safe. A good and free website with good DSA tips and questions that I go to is http://www.dsainterview.com

      Hope this helps.

      Hi mummies & daddies,

Anybody willing to share what are the questions that were asked during the interview? Especially SNGS. Many thanks in advance!

I have compiled some questions for my daughter DSA interview. I don't know how much this is of help but to a certain extend, I believe she is better prepared.

      Just to share...

      1.Tell me about yourself?
2.Why do you want to come to our school?
3.Why did you apply to our school / programme?
4.What are the things you like about our school that other schools do not include?
5.How many schools have you applied to and which school is your first choice?
6.Are you applying to this school because it is a branded/ elite school?
7.What is your definition of a good school?
8.Why should we accept you among all the great candidates /applicants who apply?
9.What are the problems of accepting students to a school based on their exam results?
10.Tell us what you enjoy doing when you are NOT attending school
11.Who is the greatest influence in your life or who do you admire the most?
12.What do you think about Steve Jobs and iPhone?
13.Tell us about an event that is significant in your life?
14.What is your goal for life?
      15.What are your strengths?
16.What are your weaknesses? How do you overcome them?
      17.What is your favourite subject?
18.How do you think you can help the CCA achieve greater heights?
19.Do you have any question about our school?
20.What questions would you like to ask us?

This is a great list. Thank you for sharing. I found a DSA Interview website very helpful. It not only has DSA interview tips but also sample DSA interview questions with answering techniques.
You can check out this website.

      Hi there,

I would like to ask is it really necessary for kid to attend DSA preparation (like interview, etc) camps before any attempt for DSA application is made?

Such courses are time consuming and can be expensive.

      Thanks.
If the child's grades are relatively good and the child has good CCA achievements and there is a good chance that the child will be shortlisted for an interview, it is a good idea to prepare for DSA interview. IMHO, personal 1-1 coaching is the best rather than camps and workshops because the coach is able to help the child formulate impressive answers that are honest and sincere and based on the child's achievements and background.

I also used the information on http://www.dsainterview.com when I was preparing my ds for DSA and will use it for my dd next year. it has some good tips and best of all its free !

Hope this helps and all the best !
