If you are staying in the neighbourhood, i would say this is the more popular math centre among the rest. I have 3 kids with PSLEMath ang mo kio branch. My DD was with them since K1. Very dedicated team of teachers. They will make time to update on what were taught during the class. Thus sometimes its abit chaotic between classes on weekends. Weekdays probably not so. The programmes as I understood were developed centrally in Marine Parade HQ. When I first joined them, I was very impressed when I first saw their worksheets. It is very systematic and well thought through. Anyway, I suggest you see it yourself. The centre manager is Rebecca.

RE: Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes

Agree absolutely! Based on my experience. My DD math teacher keep missing in action, not seem very dedicated, lessons keep being taken by relief teachers that don't really teach. Haiz... Have to rely on tuition teacherHi Parents,
MOE teachers do not really imply that they are good tutors. MOE teachers are just holding a teaching diploma. Therefore, it is better to look for tutors who have university certificates and have experience teaching!

Any one has any comments on kovan branch? Also on the p1 syllubus is it good?
Kovan Teachers are from the Ang Mo Kio branch. Teacher Rebecca and teacher Xinrong are teaching in the Kovan branch. My DS is with the Ang Mo Kio branch for 3 years already. The Programme is good. Worksheet is very systematic in teaching problem solving skills and concepts. The P1 Programme will require a diagnostic test. The P1 Programme consist of 2 parts. First part is focus on basic arithmetic skills. The second part focus on problem solving skills. I was pleasantly surprised that at 7 years old there are actually quite a number of problem solving techniques and methods to be learnt. I do encourage you to check out more about their P1 Programme. Rebecca will be a good person to talk to. Hope this is helpful. -

My DS last year P6 with AMK achieve a A for PSLE. Not a big deal for many but I am very glad because she always a 60-70 kind of student. As for the issue about section a. The logic is if a child can do section b and c, they should have no problem with a. Their worksheets are designed to teach the heuristic methods by types. So their typical worksheets categorise questions into types. I think this way of approach does help my DS understand better.Hi,
Interested to sign up for my dd. Would like to chk with parent with kid @amk branch. Do you see improvement in his/her result? Saw from website that they focus on section b/c. How any section a? Do they teach according to sch syllabus?
thanks in advance! -
RE: PSLE T-Score Secrets Revealed
Zhuge:
I think its not true. I spoke to my friend who is a current teacher, he told me MT carries the lowest weightage.
Is it true?HCH:
Found an interesting article about PSLE T-score. Reminded me of previous discussion in this forum about marks of A/A*/Pass. I have also verified with MOE that the marks of A/A*/Pass for different PSLE subjusts are confidential and not a fixed value.
Anyway, would like to share the article here. The interesting conclusion from this article is if you would like to get high T-score, you should work harder on language subjects, that is English and MT.
Happy reading.

RE: Growing Up Gifted - Kindergarten

It was the MD's speech during the K2 graduation event last month. Oh, sorry to hear the VP left a cold impression.. actually, my own experience all these years has been that they're all very warm and helpful, from teachers to principal and directors. Maybe you can schedule to meet the principal Vidier instead and she can show you some samples? Anyway, just my 2 cents worth: My colleagues and I did quite a lot of research going around other reputable kindergartens and compared notes with friends before signing up our kids at GUG, haha
So far we def feel we made the right decision and very impressed with the school's quality and standard (including their worksheets and workbooks). Hope this helps
I am skeptical. It hard to see a link between GEP and kindergarten education. I have 3 kids, two of them already in primary school. My P6 is GEP but PSLE results \"so so\".
Getting prepared for P1 is not a difficult task and I would say average childcare and kindergarten will be able to achieve that easily. (e.g. Cambridge). The reason is simple, P1 work is easy. For the first term of P1, children only learn 1 to 10. However, my two kids starts to face challenges as they progress higher up as learning in Singapore school syllabus is accelerated exponentially every year.
The only link I can see between GUG and GEP is the letter G :rotflmao: -
RE: JEI/PSLE Math - Discussion
Two of my children joined Rebecca in July. She was clear then that my P6 DS teacher was not a graduate when my hubby asked her. She did not hide that fact but she did explain that her teachers was trained in their HQ.
Anyway, her team of teachers are very dedicated. My DS had joined a few centres prior, I must say that this one is different. Prior to PSLE they drill my DS past year school papers every week on a separate day in addition to her usual tuition day. Although it is a free drilling lesson, my DS told me the lesson was pretty intensive. My DS said she like the lesson because they do only problem sums which is her weakest. Her teacher will teach them the first Question then she will need to practice the next few herself. After that, her teacher will teach the next question which is a different type. She will then practice a few.
My DS scored 63 in SA1 and managed to get a A in PSLE. I am glad with the switch to JEI PSLE MATH programme. I am certain the weekly drilling class and the focus and structure of the programme played a significant role in helping my DS improve in a short period of time. -

HI Homeworkmummy,
Sorry for the very late reply. Have been very stressed studying with my DS for his PSLE. :nailbite:
He did improve in his prelim. More importantly, he is more confident. And most importantly, I hope he do well in his PSLE :xedfingers: Now we can only wait. But it seems like this year the PSLE Math paper is not that difficult as my DS say its not very difficult.homeworkmummy:
Hi work4astar, did your DS improve significantly under the guidance of Ms Indra?

RE: JEI/PSLE Math - Discussion
With them since July this year.

Hello work4astar,
My DS P6 with AMK. Small class size, 6 students max. Worksheet content is good. Questions are organise by types and topics and challenging. Nearing the exams they do worksheets call \"Select\" to prepare for exams. As I understand they are commonly wrong questions selected from many sources and modified. They thus are usually more difficult. I can see that my DS is now more confident with Math and I pray he will get an A for his PSLEwork4astar:
Anyone has feedback on their P5 or P6 classes at AMK branch? Can share with me your experience? How's the teacher n worksheets?
:xedfingers:
Also I am most touched is that the school is very dedicated. They have free exam drilling classes for P5 and P6 to prepare for exams. During the free lessons they do past year school papers.
My DS teacher is Ms Indra, I have no issue.
How long has your DS been with the AMK centre?
