Do Sec 1 pupils need a notebook for schoolwork?

If you already have one then may not need to, is actually up to individual preference. My kids each owns a laptop as they need to do project, use asknlearn for e-learning and at times use it for research. Anyway, it can be used for a long ttime till tertiary so we decided to get for them instead of using ours.

Hi Ms Lydia Yeo / Leong,

      At Sec (3 & 4) :
the Econs lecturer / Teacher-in-charge (TKGS) had confirmed that GCE O level SEAB Econs exam subject syllabus is 2286.

After end of Sec 2 year-end exam, students an choose this Econs subject (2286) :-

      http://www.seab.gov.sg/content/syllabus/olevel/2017Syllabus/2286_2017.pdf
Yup, that's right. My girl is from this school so I am aware that their Econs is not FCE :).
Food and Nutrition and DnT will offer to them in lower Sec. Some schools do offer these two in Upper Sec though.

Just my personal opinion, since this is a public forum, and the topic is 2017 PSLE, I believe that anyone can post and ask questions about the exams (questions and answers). Parents want to know for various reasons. For example, those with DSA CO/WL especially from schools not of their first choice, would really want to have a better feel on how their children have fared in the exams, to decide later if they should accept the offer or to reject and wait for PSLE results. In order to do this, it is important for these parents to have a more accurate and realistic feel about their children's performance to make that important decision by end Oct. As long as these parents know the potential impact on their children when they try to find out how they did, I find it perfectly fine to share questions and answers. Isn't this suppose to be a sharing forum? As for parents who do not want to know about the questions and answers for fear of negatively affecting their children, then as some KSP parents did before, just avoid this thread during this period then.

I don't intend to start a \"fight\", but I think we are all adults and we should be able to make sensible decisions best for ourselves. So I support parents who want to check and share about the difficulty of the paper (questions and/answers) to continue posting on this public forum, but also parents who want to avoid this thread because they don't want to be affected. Of course, unless Chief Kiasu and the mods think otherwise. Don't flame me, my two cents worth... :siam:
I am just curious for DSA, didnt we select the sch we want? If we are not keen to go to that school, why try to use DSA to get in to that sch?

I realised it is getting very hard to predict or gauge the psle performance now. During my elder kid year, many of them expected to do well but ended up they were all very disappointed with their results. We suspect is due to the moderation. For us, we did check the ans via forum too so I guess is ok so long it will not affect the kids' morale.

The important thing is to get the kids to rest early the day before each paper. Jiayou!! šŸ™‚

      Hi,

My daughter is considering going to TKGS next year. I am doing some research.

      1. How many Arts and Sci classes will there be after streaming (assuming it is done in Sec 3 like my time)?

My daughter is strong in Maths/Sci but weak with languages. We will not want a situation where she just makes it into TKGS, and come streaming, be forced into the Arts stream bec the better students chope the Sci classes.

      2. TKGS offers Economics at O levels, which is rare.

Is this the same type of Economics offered in JC (as opposed to Home Economics)?

Is it available in Arts or Sci streams or both?

What are the chances of getting to study it?

      Appreciate any inputs. Thanks šŸ™‚

      Hi tyeogh,

The Sec 4 Economics offered in TKGS, is \"Food & Nutrition\" related. (F and N)

It is different from the H2 Econs subject at GCE A-level : that deal with global world economic issues, unemployment, inflation, macro economic policies, etc

When made enquiries at MOE, the Officer said no Secondary school in Singapore offer micro & macro-Economics subject, at GCE O level. When asked why, the Officer could not give any reason.

She said she had checked the record and said no macro Economics subject offered in any Secondary school at O level, in Singapore. :?

Find it strange, because they do offer Geography, History, English Literature / Chinese Literature, at O level, but not the macro-Economics.
      Wonder why ? ...

The Econs offered by Tkgs is not food and nutrition. Is really Econs but most probably will not cover everything you will do in the A levels.

Now all secondary schools go by subject combination. Triple Sci usually will take 3 Sciences but you have to meet certain criteria to take this combi.

There are many students who have done well in sec 2 but they rather take 2 Pure Sci, 2 Maths, 2 Humanities and 2 Languages as this route give them wider choices in a long run.

So far, it seems like there is only one class doing Combine Sci but these students still have to take 2 Maths.

In general, tkgs standard is quite high and competitive. The sch pace can be quite fast and their exams date is usually quite early compared to other schs.

Is best to look at the cut off median to determine if the kid is suitable for the sch as median is the cut off points where most students get. For all these years, most pupils who entered to tkgs are of 238 and above t score.

      Hope this help.

At 2017 Sec 4 level : heard that TKGS only open One Triple Science class.

      Is this true ?

Yes there is only one triple sci class. Tkgs only has express stream (6 - 7 classes). Most of the schools only open one triple Sci too, for instance sch with express and normal, they will have about
4 - 5 Express, 2- 3 NA, 1 NT, hence they will have one triple Sci class too. It also depends on how big the cohort is for that year, the number of classes they can open and the popularity of that subject combi and resources available. Also, you need to check the humanities subjects the sch offer. Some of the schs dont offer pure Geog, Hist or Lit, only offer elective. So, is good to attend the sch open house and find out the details.

      Hi,

      1) May i know any girls travelling back from TKGS to Sengkang/Punggol area from the new holding site? How long is the journey and which route is the best?

      2) Also, if possible anyone can share the school workload on a daily basis? Does the girls work late into the night? or have a balance of work and life?

      3) Is the teachers there supportive in the girls work, like giving consultation after school hours or sufficient mentoring?

      4) Besides CCA, does the school required the girls to stay back very often or return on Saturday?

      Thanks!!!
My girl is currently studying in tkgs. I cant ans 1) as we are not staying there. If your girl is able to manage her time well, stay focus and no other classes outside, I would say the load is still ok. My girl has other competitive sports commitment other than sch cca, so generally she has to stay up till 11 plus to complete her works. The sch standard can be quite high, competitive and pace is very fast so it also have to depend on whether the kid can keep to the pace and standard of the sch. Was told that quite a number of them stay up till morning to revise for exams. The topics covered are quite heavy actually.

The teachers are supportive and nice. My girl likes the sch alot and we are happy with the sch too.

The sch ends at 2.40pm. My girl does not stay back in sch or go back on Sat unless she has cca commitments. So far Sat is because she helps in her cca booth or sch open house.

Looks to me like there is no streaming. During my time some 30 years ago, we were streamed into Arts or Science streams in Sec 3.
