This is a recurring problem. Every year without fail, it happens. Everyone will file complaints etc. All talk No action! Indonesia will ask for funds to combat the Haze. The question is whether these funds are actually used for their intended purposes. Who knows? It may be lining many govt officials pockets! :x The best solution is to pray for heavy rains over Sumatra and Borneo to douse the fires and make it more difficult for the fire starters to accomplish their dirty deeds!
Scores missing as tsunami hits Sumatra
05:55 AM Oct 27, 2010JAKARTA - At least 100 people were killed and scores more were missing after a tsunami pounded remote islands in western Indonesia following a 7.5-magnitude earthquake on Monday night, officials said.
Rescuers were having a hard time yesterday reaching the Mentawai islands, closest to the epicentre, because of strong winds and rough seas. But reports of damage and injuries were climbing steadily.
Mr Mujiharto, who heads the Health Ministry's crisis centre, said 113 bodies have been recovered while the number of missing was said to be between 150 and 500.
Crews from several ships in the Indian Ocean were still unaccounted for, while a tourist boat carrying as many as 10 Australians is also missing.
Most buildings in the coastal village of Betu Monga were destroyed, according to Mr Hardimansyah, an official with the regional branch of the Department of Fisheries. The village is located in South Pagai, one of the Mentawai islands.
\"Of the 200 people living in that village, only 40 have been found; 160 are still missing, mostly women and children,\" he said. \"We have people reporting to the security post here that they could not hold on to their children, that they were swept away. A lot of people are crying.\"
The fault that ruptured in Monday's quake also caused the 9.1-magnitude quake that unleashed a tsunami around the Indian Ocean in 2004, killing 230,000 people in a dozen countries.
Getting to the Mentawais, a popular surfing spot 280km from the west coast of Sumatra, takes 12 hours and the islands can be reached only by boat.
A group of Australians said they were hanging out on the back deck of their chartered surfing vessel, anchored in a nearby bay, when the quake hit.
It generated a wave that caused them to smash into a neighbouring boat, and before they knew it, a fire was ripping through their cabin.
\"We threw whatever we could that floated - surfboards, fenders - then we jumped into the water,\" Mr Rick Hallet told Australia's Nine Network. \"Fortunately, most of us had something to hold on to ... and we just washed in the wetlands, and scrambled up the highest trees that we could possibly find and sat up there for an hour and a half.\"
The Macaronis surfing resort on North Pagai island was also badly affected. World Surfaris, a company that organises surfing holidays, said Macaronis had \"experienced a level of devastation that has rendered the resort inoperable\".
Reports via Facebook from a surfer at the resort suggested that all villas had been \"wiped out\" by the tsunami.
The quake also jolted towns along Sumatra's western coast, including Padang, which last year was hit by a deadly 7.6-magnitude tremor that killed more than 700. -

No wonder DD's cough didn't get any better.
Even Malaysia has some areas with PSI 100+, how come Singapore's NEA only say 50-60, moderate level??

Even Malaysia has some areas with PSI 100+, how come Singapore's NEA only say 50-60, moderate level??

PSI reading at 12noon has gone up to 80. -
Why PSI reading is every 2 hours? Why can’t it be every 30 minutes to give more up-to-date reading? Luckily the children are on holiday now otherwise they may do PE in unhealthy air since the PSI reading is every 2 hours.

My son's basketball 4 hours training still onz leh.
Coach said training indoor and so ok.
But indoor air magic out from itself?
Told son maybe can skip for today and he said, \"Cannot cannot. Everyone is going and so I need to be there as well.\"
Ok lah ok lah, go go. See how later...

Even within Singapore, North South East West readings also different. Just because KL 100+ does not mean Singapore also 100+ what.

So if Singapore 100+ and KL not? Do we doubt the reading also? Bet you no one will say not possible if the readings are reversed.
