IP vs O level

Correction: They aren't HCJC and RJC anymore, they're HCI (college) and RI (JC)As a student taking my PSLE this year,my parents prefer the O Level route, but i rather go for IP.My dad is okay with it,but my mom needs more convincing.
It is because for IP, you only need to take A Levels, which means if you do badly for A Levels, you wont have a certificate. Whereas, if you take O Levels then take A levels, you at least have a certificate.
It is just my opinion for i do not entertain nor like the idea of rushing through 4 years of secondary school education in less then 3.5 years. I wouldn't want to live a fast-paced life of studying for O Levels and then A Levels. If i can get into IP, then i would be able to do more projects, learn more and have a fun secondary school life at my own comfortable, luxurious pace.
The benefits of IP is that you don't just secure a place for your secondary education, you secure a place for your JC education too, without having to fight for that 3 points to get into top JCs like HCJC and RJC.
This is just my 2cts worth though. -
O level might be better…
There is less stress and the people seem happier…
There are also fewer projects and longer holidays
In addition, they also have opportunities to explore many things
IP is very stressful. There are projects almost every night and we only sleep past midnight everyday. I don’t know about the other IP schools but i now Cedar VCA IP is like this. There are projects every week and we learn things that are only taught in JC.
In Cedar IP, subjects such as Home Economics and D&T are also not taught. Instead, we are taught things such as Design Thinking and Financial Literacy which are quite irrelevant. -
Look at the other good points of IP…u gals have a cut above the rest. U gals belong to the elite group of students. Cheer up!

But I do agree with you that you shouldn't force yourself to take up subjects which u do not like. IP may not fit everyone. -

Hi I am from VCA too, so I was shortlisted to go for the IP and there's interviews this Thurs. Would you mind sharing with me about the curriculum? Is there more emphasis on projects or is there more emphasis on pen and paper? And please share with me the advantages and disadvantages of IP.O level might be better...

I would really appreciate your answer, I've been stressing out over this IP for 1 week now.... :?: -
With the 7 new schools introducing IP is there any chance of IP COP score getting lower?
-
Both same to me!!!

I think the IP system in different IP school will be different too. In RGS, there is Home economics and D&T, under the aesthetics modules, which rotates about 7-10 sessions. There are still quite a handful of projects, but it's not weekly and it's planned carefully from the start of the year. We do a lot of self-learning, like there are no more stacks of notes to study. There are also no practice papers or revision.O level might be better...

IP may not suit those who are not independent learners, i think. -

Or NUS High with IP program ending 6 yrs with NUS High Diploma.

Just curious, can IP students take O levels exam still as a private candidate, if they are interested?

May I ask the reasons, pls? Thanks.[/quote]When an IP student that lead to 6 years A level (bypass O level) attempt to register as a private candidate to sit for \"O\" level exam (whether take exam only a few subjects, or many subjects at one go) on his / her own initiative -
at that very point while trying to register, the MOE computerized system will be alerted of this intention, flag out an alert message that this pupil is currently an enrolled IP student in XXX Secondary school : registration as a private candidate failed.
The system will stop the registration.
However, not sure whether this apply to IP students, from following Secondary schools -
ACSI (IB) / SJI (IB) / MGS (IB) / NUS High
Reason :
Although these are also IP Sec schools, however their path do not lead to \"A\" level exam. They have their own unique Diploma, nothing to do with \"A\" level cert.
Whereas \"O\" level candidates (whether from schools or private candidates) go together with \"A\" level, pairing.
Even amongst IP schools : they distinguish amongst themselves.
Which specific type of IP school, are you referring to ?
\"A\" level IP school, or \"International Baccalaureate\" IP school, or NUS High Specialized IP school ?
IP terminology : too generally used -

I also am curious; why can't an IP student appear as a private candidate at the O-levels?FantasyLandDreams:

@FantasyLandDreams, the IP student can instead take the IGCSE exams as a private candidate. IGCSE is equivalent to the O-levels.
