      Hi,

For 3/4 of this year, my DS2 was doing both violin and basketball. He's P2. He's training for the school feeder team, so it's a bit more than those leisure type. His violin learning at home has been for about a year already but now he has stopped.

So far so good. No injuries. Couple of bruises, some complaints about the ball landing on him. But he seems happy cos he got a free ball from school for training so he takes that to school when he has cca. Recently he was also asked to join the sch's strings ensemble. But looking at his pattern, he might be better off in basketball cos he's not very musically inclined.

My DS1 has also been doing violin for 6 years already and is in the sch strings ensemble, but he is unlikely to continue it in sec sch next year even if the sch offers that cca cos he would rather do a sport, like air rifle. I guess interest is very important. Although DS1 might qualify to apply for MEP (music elective) in sec sch, he absolutely refused to consider it and instead insisted that he should do home economics! :stupid:
Well, he should be happy. Home Economics is COMPULSORY in S1 and S2 for govt, govt-aided and autonomous schools. Most independant schools also make their kids take it in S1 and S2 (survival skills in case they need to study/work overseas).

Yep, it's compulsory. But if he takes MEP, then he's exempted from home econs and design & technology. Anyway, probably will just let him be.

          hi titank, thanks.

Nope, the school did not identify anything special, he HIMSELF identified something very \"unspecial\" about his racquet games, that's why he's very adamant on basketball  or soccer :!:
My advice from what I've seen. There were more injuries occurred in soccer than basketball. :?

Actually it depends on what do you want for your son; Structured group programs for team play with a competitive element? individual one-one training on skills and fundementals? Or simply exposure and fun?

If you want to have the group setting, competitve type Fast-break and BAS is the only group that I know of. Usually for the CCs their programs are not too great as they are also looking to groom their CC teams. What you have alot of are the individual coaches teaching skills. So whats your fancy?

Basketball academies dun seem to be plentiful unlike soccer academies. Been searching for basketball academy for my DS1 who’s in P2 this year. We live around serangoon north. Anyone has any nearby academy to recommend? SgBasketball (ris pasir, queensway) Fastbreak (woodleign), BAS (geylang), Scholar Basketball Academy (macpherson Cc) are far away as I dun drive. Thanks in advance.

                  Post notes:
Brought DS1 to a Basketball Clinic @ Hougang Sports Hall just days back. He enjoyed it. But Hougang Sports Hall doesn’t have regular basketball classes.

Sent enquiry to one academy who advised their beginner group class comprises of 2 days each 2-hours session. Was wondering aloud whom could afford 4 hours a week for their kid to spend on 1 sport? And at $50 a session, that’s $400 a month! I’m not aspiring my kid to be some great basketball player, just want him to learn the proper techniques and to play friendly matches with like-minded kids as his primary school has no basketball CCA.

Anyone have the exact address at BAS (Geylang)?
