Mother Tongue is counted (including those who took HCL at Y4/Sec 4 with grades A1 or A2).
I think the critical thing here is whether MT is considered a distinction. If you achieve Mother Tongue A, and 5 other As (GP, PW and 3H2 As), you may not get 90 RP as your 4th content subject did not get A. So you can get 6 distinctions, and yet not get 90 RP, if MT is counted as a subject.
I have no idea whether schools consider MT a subject.
All the best. -

Are H3s counted? Some kids take 2 H3 subjects, that brings the possible total to 9! I agree with you - if the distinctions are not in the grades that count towards the RP, then it's possible that students with 6 distinctions do not get 90RP.

Yes I am sure H3s are counted.

I suspect there are probably very few kids reading 2 H3s in any JC apart from RI or HCI, and JCs are extremely selective.
That said, I do think the number of students reading H3s, outside of HCI and RI, is really quite small. Even at RI/HCI, the proportion reading H3s, is smaller than the proportion that is not reading H3s (I think). -

1) H3s are counted.Yes I am sure H3s are counted.
I suspect there are probably very few kids reading 2 H3s in any JC apart from RI or HCI, as this requires MOE's approval, and JCs are extremely selective in whom they recommend to MOE (not all of them get approval). There are even rarer cases of 3H2s + 2H3s, which don't require MOE's approval as it is within the approved number of academic units (i.e. same as 4H2s + 1H3).

Thanks! I know very few read 2 H3s, but included that simply because it is possible.

GP, PW, 4H2 (or 3H2+1H1), H3 subjects and Mother Tongue are counted (including HCL at Y4/Sec 4 with grades A1/ A2) for “distinctions rate”. However for calculation of RP90, don’t have to include Mother Tongue if you didn’t do well.

I think one of the reasons very few take 2 H3 is that the lessons were conducted after sch hours and in the case of my kid’s class, they were scheduled at the same timing. So I’m puzzled how those classmates who took 2 H3 manage to juggle their lessons. Reminds me of Hermoine Granger who split herself into 2 to simultaneously attend lessons. Lol

And to do well for H3 is quite challenging since it’s way above H2 in terms of difficulty, according to my kid. So it’s not like one can miss a big chunk of lessons and expect to make it. -

For the MOE H3s taught by school, yes there may be a clash i f schools organize a \"H3 teaching day\". But there are university-taught H3s and also, research-based H3s.

It's difficult to do timetabling that satisfies everyone, and I guess schools can't achieve everything that students might want, especially if it's just 1-2 each year. And yes, on top of the already full JC timetable, most students would be wise to do only one or no H3s. It may be better (in terms of breadth) for students to do more in their CCAs instead rather than even more studying.
