I think u may have misunderstood some stuff
      1) DSA does not discriminate foreigners
      2) Appeals after S1 posting also no difference
(Both are at sole discretion of school and unaffected by nationality status, unlike S1 posting)
      3) Priority of choice applies to S1 posting but not DSA. For DSA, u have 3 slots for application. Only after getting CO or Waitlist then u rank your acceptance.

      Hope this clarifies.
Dear AHsDad, the school gave some talks and apparently that was what they informed us. We might have misunderstood. But still, I'm concerned about our nationality status, especially when applying through the Leadership domain. They would want to accept those with potential to lead the country, not us. We cannot contribute to SG, and so I feel like they might most likely consider nationality status/citizenship. Her teacher agrees as well.

        Hi AHsDad

        Thank you for sharing.
Do you mind share what are the 3 sports achievement with national level? Do you mean represented school at national games?
Due to pandemic, most national games have been cancelled these couple of years.

Thanks. Bear with me pls 😂. Reportbook is not so comprehensive so exact duties (school-based) are also included and expounded. Community events >> role in school art sales charity donation & healthcare+Public transport heroes appreciation (art club) , NTUC book donation drive (prefect volunteer event) and river cleanup (school event).

Disclaimer: 10-pointer may not exactly be the key to securing the interview, in fact ours arguably even an overkill. Anyway… here goes
        1. Art club events (inc SYF team lead + above mentioned)
        2. Art competitions (internal and external)
        3&4. Prefect events and roles
        3. Performing arts - piano grade, talent contest, represented school in MOE music video
        6. Maths & science Olympiads - internal and external achievements. Invited by NUSH for MCurie2 course
        7. Oratory - debate and emceeing experience
8-10. Achvements in 3 Sports at national level

No unfortunately not the NSG sports, but lesser popular ones 😂. My girl takes part in numerous “open” grappling competitions. in this context, “National” refers to the major competitions organised by respective National Sport Associations (Wrestling Fed of Sg, Sg Judo Fed, Sg Jujitsu Assoc). Totally nil in 2020 but Wrestling had a competition in 2021.

Hopefully she can represent her school in NSG for Judo this year, as external CCA

May I enquiry what were your girl’s results in those competitions.

              Won judo ‘18 & ‘19

              Won Wrestling ‘19 & ‘21

Jujitsu won ‘19 but it was just 1 fight cos under girls category. There’s an U17 judo competition which she’s quite excited to participate in Feb 😄

Hi AHsDad, I just realised my mistake. I meant it in a tiebreaking context, because I feel like there will be many like her. Sorry for the confusion!

I did some search, out of the 10 talent areas, for 1 to 6, RGS (I remember that was the school you applied DSA for your girl but was not successful and you think could be due to P5 results) offers them as DSA talent areas. Talents 7 to 10 are not listed as RGS offered DSA talent areas.

Would you mind sharing your girl's achievements for 1 to 6 please? it is for further analysis and hopefully can shed some lights on the selection process (P5 result and/or others criteria?) for the benefits of other parents.

Hi bbbay. Understand u trying to do analysis. Happy to help but I just think school’s assessment is very subjective especially for leadership, and a study of my girl’s profile will not really give the insight to RGS selection process. Each applicant would be unique in their own ways. In any case, my points 1-6 did not have anything outstanding, only intended to show range.

Just to recap, my girl applied to DSA RGS community youth leadership and visual arts. Didn’t get interview for VA. CYL interviewed and received WL which was eventually converted. Academics (AL7 for P5/P6) was not the concern but the interview performance I tot was quite important

Good luck to all parents/kids doing DSA this year. If any query on RGS VA or CYL, pls feel free to Dm. For CYL, actually there are some sessions they have to attend. She didn’t update earlier so I wrongly claimed there’s no DSA commitments 😬🙏🏽

I am so happy to see this forum up and running. I have an average student with above average language , expression and imagination. He currently is enrolled into a drama school, definitely is not camera and people shy, loves to paint ( but not in an art class- all by himself), and generally does not like Maths or Science or sports.

One of the schools I have in mind is SOTA. Do you have other recommendations? Keeping in mind his below average skills in maths and science, I do not want to go for a school that would put undue pressure on him (even if he is able to secure admission by fluke) …
I do want him to be able to explore his artistic talent more as he grows. Any input is welcome !
