I think there is another batch to be interviewed on Thursday. That's why not much discussion going on?
Serious? This year got 2 days for interview?? I was still hoping they will announce results by Thursday? Cause traditionally they announce results 2 days after interview… so far among my DC and his classmates who went for round 2, only 1 classmate was invited for interview on Tuesday..

For children with ACTUAL PSLE AL score of AL4 to AL6, they can choose any school with that result.

Unfortunately, as of now, no one knows what their ACTUAL PSLE AL will be. Children who are currently AL4 (4 x AL1) could drop to AL8 (4 x AL2) and AL6 may end up with AL10. As a result, they might end up with a 'lesser' school compared with what they wanted to secure via DSA.

That’s the fear of most people.
This explanation could not be more apt.

Actually we are also going for triple science, the reason being it will help keep options for engineering or medicine later on for example ,we take out bio or physics it could get tricky, because at this stage we don’t know what profession kid is going to pursue
Triple Sci is not a requirement for Medicine at university level. As many parents have mentioned Chem is compulsory and you can choose bio or physics. In JC you can only choose two sciences in any case. However from what I understand is that if you choose for eg chem and phy is upper sec it will be easier to take chem and phy in JC level than to go for biology as there will be a steep learning curve.

Some kids are clear in not liking a particular science and choose to pursue either bio or physics (chem is compulsory). Some kids prefer to do all three as they like all sciences and are able to cope with the content.

As a second time psle parent I would like to share ...

IMO, DSA is only a way for a child who really has potential in certain academic area, CCA to get an admission into a school that offers opportunities for the child to grow. DSA does not and should not be considered as a ticket to a so called better school or IP schools. DSA applications must be solely based on the child's strength and Interests. If the child loves Math or dance for eg look for a school that allows the child to explore those opportunities. It may not be in the so called top school but in any school that is in your own neighborhood.
Parents should not get stressed over DSA admission process and try to get competitive and make a portfolio just for DSA sake. I have come across students who have been forced to take Olympiad exams etc and have worked hard to give them credit and entered top schools via DSA only to not be able to cope with the curriculum demand and struggle with balancing studies, Liesure.

My elder daughter did not DSA. She did not get extremely high sore in PSLE but got into a neighborhood school express stream and is blossoming well has several opportunities for leadership and enjoys school and plus has the time to pursue music outside of school curriculum.

My younger daughter (PSLE this yr) wanted to try so we let her but all her portfolio that she wanted to put up was all hers and by her. No special preparation as PSLE studies is already more than what she can handle.

What I'm trying to say is that try for DSA but don't get over stressed or overanalyze as to why the child was not selected or shortlisted or what could have been done better. Just go with the flow and find a secondary school that will allow the child to grow at his / her pace.

Look for subject combinations offered in upper secondary schools, look for the applied learning program, life long learning programs and other CCA activities that they can explore.

Secondary school is a wonderful phase where the children really get independent and blossom.

All the best to all kids 🙂 whether DSA-ing or not. 🙂

The easiest route to any child’s dream school is still PSLE. I am very sure if the child applies a particular domain, it must be of his/her interest area. Set expectation low, go through the process, that’s it. Whether you get a ticket via DSA or not, PSLE is still important. That is the Finale of 6 years of Primary school education.

But what if the intention is to get admitted into elite schools, because parents think elite schools environments are more conducive for academic excellence, and academic excellence will mean better chance of success in future?
