All the best to your son. I know it’s painful waiting for VS, hope u hear from them soon as Term 3 has started so hopefully the relevant teachers will be having meetings to discuss.
You are correct. My son also got invited to submit his art portfolio by SJI. Not saying anything by this but SJI was one of the fastest to send out invitations following the 1 June deadline. It could be because they invited all to provide their portfolios so that they could then undertake a more thorough review of each student's skills before shortlisting them for interview and actual auditions.
Ultimately, I'm 110% in agreement with you. I'm just glad that my kid got the opportunity to submit his artwork. Did your boy apply for an Art/VA DSA into other schools, e.g. VS or RI?
We didnt apply VA to other schools, as he is not specifically into the traditional painting style. And he prefers SJI culture. -

LOL! Have faith
DS grades definitely not near AL15. Application was not thrown into bin (yet).[/quote]

My boy also prefers the SJI culture. So, let's see how things pan out.

Regardless of outcomes, here's wishing all the children the very best of luck. -

VA is also verifiable and quantifiable. For example, for 'artists', we have:
What about VA (which my DS is applying under)? How would the schools verify VA achievements? The schools had not yet seen any of the artworks in the initial MOUE submission so how would they decide? Those were my questions when I considered how the shortlisting worked? So, premised on this, I had assumed that the primary (but not sole) criteria for assessment at the first round of shortlisting would have to be academic results. Of course, the talent achievements also count but I had assumed that they would not be as prominent simply because the schools may not have sufficient insight into them.
To be clear, it is also very possible that different domains are assessed differently
You could be spot-on here. As long as a child is able to score an AL15 and below, they would automatically be shortlisted at which point, they would be invited assuming that they can produce the \"results\" expected of a DSA student.
1. 2019 - A*STAR’s Our Singapore, Our Future Children’s Art Competition
2. 2020 - MDSA's Colour Our Future Art Competition
3. 2021 - URA's Space for Our Dreams Art Competition
4. 2022 - Children's Museum Singapore (formerly Singapore Philatelic Museum) Draw My Stamp Story Art Competition
and so on. These are competitions that students who are DSA-ing this year would probably have joined previously.
Not to mention, lots of competitions organised by quasi-government (Visual Arts Centre ), private organisations (i.e. art schools) and companies (like Kao's International Environment Painting Contest into its 13th year this year). Honestly, there are too many competitions to list.
There are also non-competition type that can be verified. Example, if the applicant has held individual or is involved in group exhibitions (especially for sculptors and ceramic artists), or has published some coffee table books (especially for photographers), he / she is probably held in high(er) regard as well.
Ultimately, it depends on the priority and how serious the schools are looking at the VA talent area. I would be surprised if winners of competitions or known exhibitors haven't gotten an invite. FWIW, other than SOTA, I don't think many schools are very serious. Hence, schools are probably not that aggressive on the look out for these talents - could be a good thing for those who might not have the portfolio but also could be a bad thing as these schools aren't likely to offer many places. -

True! But I think your last paragraph makes the most sense. Other than SOTA, the other schools are not as serious with VA and therefore, take a more liberal/flexible approach to DSA applicants.

:thankyou: Hi, anyone has received dance audition? Can share the schools? Thanks!

I just noticed that neither HCI nor NYGH offers Art as a DSA domain. But both of these schools have AEP (and I believe they are the original AEP schools). Just curious, anyone know if these domains were recently whacked or has always been this way?

DSA is based on 'needs' and 'wants' of a school, not what the school has to offer. For example, even though HCI has choir as a CCA, and it was always a powerhouse in Gymnastics, it doesn't ask for talents in these areas.

If HCI (or NYGH) feels that they are able to attract students to sign up for AEP, and they have decided that they are not going to spare a DSA spot for any candidates, no point listing it down. In truth, while many schools list VA Design and Media as a category, I don't think you will see a lot of actual offer and success story, especially to the popular schools.
Besides HCI and NYGH, of the 4 pioneer AEP schools (NYGH and HCI started in 1984, VS and CHIJ TP started in 1985), only VS offers DSA to AEP. CHIJ TP, like the other 2 schools, doesn't. -
A quick question, does the conduct grade in the report book play a big part in DSA application? My child told me most of his classmates got a ‘Good’, even the class chairman.
